    Who You Are

    The Early Childhood Advocacy Campaign Organizer will support a major new initiative focused on reducing screen time in early childhood. The program will seek to change how apps and platforms targeted to young children are designed and marketed to make it easier for parents and caregivers to ensure kids have the offline time they need to thrive. The Campaign Organizer will work closely with the Early Childhood Advocacy Program Director and other stakeholders to implement a targeted campaign to help change the conversation around early childhood screen time, highlighting the profit motive and that screen time is not essential to early learning.

    REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Advocacy Program Director

    What You'll Do

    Campaign and Advocacy Support:

    • Assist the Program Director in planning and executing strategic advocacy campaigns focused on changing the narrative around early childhood screen time.
    • Coordinate and manage logistics for advocacy activities, such as petitions, legal complaints, public statements, and public education campaigns.
    • Help draft and distribute advocacy materials, such as one-pagers, fact sheets, action alerts, emails, and newsletters, with the guidance of the Program Director and Communications Director.
    • Monitor, review, and understand impact of developments in child-targeted business practices, relevant academic research to consider their impacts, and relevant laws and policies
    • Conduct research to support the development of policy briefs, public comments, and campaign materials related to early childhood digital media use and its impact.
    • Collaborate with the Director to gather and synthesize data for reports, white papers, and presentations that highlight the need for reduced screen time and responsible digital practices.
    • Help compile and organize research materials, including studies on screen time and early childhood development, for easy access and use by the team and external stakeholders.

    Community and Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Participate in outreach to communities and other advocates on behalf of Fairplay.
    • Assist in building coalitions to support campaigns, composed of organizations, lawmakers, policy makers, experts, industry, and parents and caregivers, and young people
    • Maintain relationships with stakeholders, including child advocacy groups, public health professionals, policymakers, educators, parents, and journalists.
    • Organize and participate in coalition meetings, webinars, and workshops to engage stakeholders in discussions about policy changes and best practices for reducing children's screen time.
    • Manage communication and coordination with partners, providing them with relevant research and advocacy updates.
    • Coordinate and communicate across Fairplay departments and programs, including Screen Time Action Network work groups.

    Data Management and Reporting:

    • Maintain organized records of campaign activities, stakeholder engagements, and media outreach efforts.
    • Track and report on campaign progress, providing insights and recommendations for improvements to the Director.
    • Assist with preparing reports for funders, stakeholders, and internal use to demonstrate the impact of the program's advocacy efforts.

    Event Planning and Coordination:

    • Assist in planning and coordinating events, such as in-person convenings, webinars, and advocacy days, to engage stakeholders and amplify the program’s message.
    • Oversee event logistics, including scheduling, securing speakers, developing agendas, and managing virtual or physical setups, in coordination with the Operations team.

    Administrative:

    • Provide administrative support as needed for various aspects of campaigns, including but not limited to scheduling meetings, tracking activities of Fairplay and coalition partners, coordinating coalition initiatives, creating and overseeing databases to track grassroots advocacy, and supporting travel arrangements as necessary
    • Manage administrative and technical aspects of campaign activities.
    • Provide other administrative support as necessary for Early Childhood Advocacy Program Director

    What You Bring

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Demonstrated experience in campaign organizing, advocacy, community engagement, or related roles.
    • Demonstrated success in community building and/or grassroots organizing.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to listen for understanding.
    • Passion for collaborating with people across sectors, cultures, and identities.
    • Strong project management skills; highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
    • Experience in data management, project tracking, or research and campaign monitoring, ideally within a nonprofit, advocacy, or public policy environment.
    • Passion for child advocacy, digital accountability, and reducing harmful screen time for young children.
    • Editing skills, including both close proofing and broader content shaping.
    • Ease in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Familiarity with Zoom or other video call software.
    • Able to work well both collaboratively and independently. Willingness to help build an equitable and inclusive work environment.
    • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
    • Access to reliable internet connection and willingness to utilize a personal mobile device for work-related activities.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Non-profit advocacy campaigns and/or community organizing experience
    • Experience in organizing to advance legislative policy and/or cultural shifts
    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Child Development, Communications, Social Sciences, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Experience organizing and building diverse coalitions at the national and local level
    • Familiarity with online community platforms, for example Slack, Signal, and listservs.
    • Salesforce or other CRM experience

    Compensation and Benefits

    This is a full-time (37.5 hr/week), benefitted position with an annual salary of $60,000 - $65,000 commensurate with experience. This position is considered non-exempt under federal and state wage and hour laws. This position is eligible for a full benefits package including:

    Physical Demands/Work Environment

    The physical demands described for this position are that of a typical office environment. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.     Location: This is a remote position. Occasional travel may be required.
