    Project Bread connects people and communities in Massachusetts to reliable sources of food while advocating for policies that make food more accessible—so that no one goes hungry. To assist us in meeting our mission, Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger is seeking a Policy Associate to join our team.

    Supervisor: Chief Policy Officer

    Starting Salary Range: $55,000-$60,000

    The Role: The Policy Associate plays a vital role in keeping the Policy team organized and effective. This position ensures seamless coordination of daily operations, enabling the team to focus on advancing policies that make food more accessible. From scheduling and logistics to preparing key materials and supporting external partnerships, the Policy Associate is an essential contributor to our mission. A successful candidate thrives on supporting others, excels in problem-solving, and will be excited for valuable exposure to strategic advocacy efforts that create radical change.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Administrative & Operational Support:

    • Maintain departmental files and contact databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
    • Support team members with tracking deadlines, follow-ups, and project timelines.
    • Collaborate with support staff across departments to coordinate and triage requests for meetings, reports, and other critical information updates.

    Meeting & Event Coordination:

    • Schedule internal and external meetings, manage calendar invites, and provide logistical support, including with technology as needed.
    • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing policy team meetings and external coalition meetings.
    • Take detailed meeting notes and track action items, ensuring timely follow-up.
    • Organize logistics for policy-related events, briefings, and advocacy days.

    Communication & Content Support:

    • Assist in drafting and editing administrative documents, reports, and correspondence.
    • Support content development as needed, including fact sheets, newsletters, advocacy materials, and PowerPoint presentations.
    • Help manage communication with coalition partners, policymakers, and stakeholders.

    Additional Duties:

    • Provide general support to the Public Policy team as needed.
    • Engage in cross-team collaboration to support advocacy initiatives and organizational goals.

    Organizational Responsibilities:

    • Participate in supporting the annual Walk for Hunger, including working as event staff the weekend of the Walk (first weekend in May), and attending pre-Walk events as assigned.
    • Participate in organization-wide events and meetings.
    • Act to promote, sustain, and grow Project Bread’s positive, productive, and inclusive working environment.

    • Personal commitment to solving hunger in Massachusetts.
    • Prior professional experience providing administrative and operational support in a fast-paced environment, preferably in nonprofit, policy, or related environment.
    • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage competing deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism; comfort interacting and supporting individuals of a variety of backgrounds.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to synthesize and edit written content from various sources to create a cohesive draft.
    • Ability to manage by influence and build strong internal and external relationships.
    • Excellent PowerPoint skills to prepare for presentations.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
    • Experience with Raisers Edge NXT or similar contact/CRM database and Asana is a plus.
    • Although not required for the position, the ability to speak multiple languages is viewed as a significant asset.

    Additional Requirements

    Working Location: All employees are currently working a hybrid remote and in-office model and are expected to work in the office each week. The Policy Associate will typically need to be present in the East Boston office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and may require additional in-person work as needed.
