    Description

    Bet Mishpachah, Washington, DC's LGBTQ+ Synagogue which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary year in 2025 seeks an enthusiastic, engaging, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Communications and Development Coordinator. The goal is to ensure that the Bet Mishpachah message is communicated across all online channels and to develop and nurture continuing donor support.

    Core Functions

    • Provide general support to Bet Mishpachah’s Executive Director in running the synagogue’s communications and development functions.

    Responsibilities

    Communications

    • Effectively communicate — verbally and in writing — information about Bet Mishpachah policies, values, history, and programs.
    • Write and edit branding information.
    • Draft and update website content, including writing blogs.
    • Draft and schedule emails general emails and development/fundraising emails
    • Write and schedule social media posts.
    • Develop and maintain a library of news clips that help demonstrate the value of Bet Mishpachah to the Jewish and queer community.
    • Proofread and edit weekly and monthly newsletters.
    • Oversee the communication functions of the Administrator.
    • Assist with the maintenance of our ongoing communications calendar.

    Development/Fundraising

    • Create, manage, and track event registration page on website.
    • Research individual, corporate, and foundation prospects.
    • Coordinate the production of a range of materials for donor solicitation, including background materials and collateral to leave with funders.
    • Assist in drafting proposals and funder reports.
    • Assist with planning and executing special fundraising events.
    • Handle administrative details associated with development-related volunteer leadership committees or donor meetings.
    • Assist with the adaptation of donor-facing materials, adapting communications from stewardship and other functions.
    • Maintain donor database and assist the Executive Director and Board of Directors with fundraising appeals and calls.
    • Other duties may be assigned by the Executive Director.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Adept oral and written presentation skills.
    • Strong organizational and administrative skills including the ability to manage multiple projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task to complete projects on deadline.
    • Strong computer skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and publishing programs.
    • Exceptional attention to detail.
    • Familiarity with communications and fundraising.
    • Graphic design abilities/experience preferred.
    • Technology savviness, fluent in using social media, blogs, web, database, and other information technology systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
    • Understanding of trends in the philanthropic world and changing world of communications.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Strong passion and commitment to grow Bet Mishpachah as a spiritual home for the. LGBTQ+ and the greater Jewish community.
    • Excellent writing abilities.

    Work Experience:

    • The ideal candidate has 2-5 years of communications and development experience relevant to the non-profit experience.
    • Experience with CRM software and email software(i.e. constant contact) is a plus.

    Work Environment:

    • Remote (Bet Mishpachah is located in Washington, DC).
    • Must be available for occasional in-person events, programs, and Shabbat services.
    • Evening and weekend work will sometimes be required.
    • This position will report to the Executive Director and often interface with members of the Board of Directors, a half-time Rabbi, and a half-time Administrator.

    Compensation

    This is a half-time exempt position with a salary range of $45,000-$55,000, commensurate with experience. The benefits package includes paid vacation time, paid personal time, paid time for professional conferences, and time off for Jewish and secular holidays. The Congregation does not offer or provide health care insurance benefits.
