    Descrição

The Center for Earth Ethics (CEE) at Union Theological Seminary is seeking a full-time Research Associate to play a vital role on a small team working at the intersection of climate change, values, spirituality, and ethics. The Research Associate conducts research and makes policy recommendations – independently and as a member of a team – that support CEE’s overall research and policy objectives. The Research Associate must be a collegial coworker effective at working collaboratively on a variety of projects.

This is a hybrid position, and the successful candidate will need to work out of CEE’s New York City office in Morningside Heights on a regular basis. The Research Associate will report directly to the Director of Strategic Initiatives.

    Key Duties:

    • Conduct research and analysis to support the development of (1) policy recommendations, (2) white papers, (3) research papers, and (4) courses and other programming.
    • Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Director of Strategic Initiatives, and/or other CEE staff, represent CEE at meetings, conferences, and fora, as necessary.
    • In partnership with the Executive Director and/or the Director of Strategic Initiatives, contribute to the design of and execute research projects.
    • Research and write policy notes, briefings, reports, and other documents for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as climate policy, environmental studies, climate justice, social ethics, religion, or social science. A master’s degree is a plus.
    • At least one year of experience working in higher education or another not-for-profit setting.
    • Experience preparing briefings, writing reports, and generating other public documents.
    • Ability to work independently with general supervision and as a member of a team.
    • Willingness to travel within North America and abroad.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment within defined guidelines and practices.
