As Senior Manager of Advancement, you will help realize this vision for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

    The Senior Manager of Advancement, reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, will be a critical member of the Advancement Team. You will help ensure success for the Museum’s individual giving and membership programs, support ongoing fundraising efforts and grant writing, and identify and cultivate new supporters. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in inspiring millions of children and visitors for years to come.

    what you’ll do:

    • Individual Giving and Membership Program: Implement and execute a robust individual giving and membership program to increase annual revenue and meet fundraising goals.
    • Fundraising Goals and Metrics: Establish clear fundraising goals and metrics, providing regular progress reports to the VP of Advancement.
    • Donor Engagement: Implement donor engagement strategies, ensuring personalized outreach and recognition for top supporters.
    • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals.
    • Storytelling and Representation: Serve as a key storyteller and ambassador for the National Children’s Museum, representing the organization at donor meetings, public events, and conferences.
    • Major Donors: Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors.
    • Communications: Collaborate with the External Affairs Team to develop donor communications and the annual report.
    • Donor Relations: Network and maintain regular correspondence with donors. Identify strategies to move donors through the pipeline.
    • Special Events: Oversee the planning and execution of signature fundraising events, including the annual gala, roundtables, and donor receptions.
    • Event Collaboration: Collaborate with the External Affairs team to maximize event attendance and visibility, leveraging events to deepen donor engagement and attract new supporters.
    • Fundraising Campaigns: Launch and manage special fundraising campaigns, including digital appeals, matching gift challenges, and giving days.
    • Support other Advancement-related tasks as needed.

    what we believe are important experiences and traits for this role:

    • Bachelor’s degree required;
    • Up to five years of relevant experience in fundraising, preferably at a cultural institution;
    • Passion for relationship building and experience cultivating new relationships;
    • Excellent writer and editor with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences;
    • Previous experience working with and managing prospect research and databases;
    • Ability to manage large projects while maintaining attention to detail;
    • Excellent decision-making skills, ability to balance multiple time-critical projects and pivot quickly;
    • Team player who values a collaborative working environment; and
    • Passion for the mission of National Children’s Museum.

    physical demands + working environment:

      Ability to remain standing, walking, or sitting for long periods, move up to 40 lbs., and interact with children and adults in our exhibits, including a three-story climber and slide;

        Fast-paced, highly sensory, stimulating work environment due to constant noise and interaction with other sta and visitors, which includes children;

          Punctuality and attendance required;

            Weekends, occasional evenings, and holidays may be required;

            hours + location:

            Full-time 9 am – 5 pm position located at National Children’s Museum at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW, as well as at the administrative offices at 1275 Pennsylvania Ave NW. Must be onsite 4 days per week with the ability to work remotely one day per week. Weekend + evening availability and some travel is periodically required.

            salary:

            $75,000 - $85,000 Commensurate with experience. This is a benefits eligible position.
