    Ambassadors of Conservation

    Volunteers will be trained by zoo staff to assist with the following projects:

    • Horticultural projects such as raking leaves, weeding, watering plants, and disposing of leaf
    • litter
    • Cleaning/organizing animal carriers, animal enrichment items, nets, and other items
    • Assisting Education staff with their projects
    • Assisting with administrative projects such as organizing files and documents; updating
    • animal information in an animal records-keeping system called ZIMS
    • Assisting with guest services

    Volunteer Applicants must have:

    • A strong commitment to advancing the zoo’s goals in supporting animal conservation, education, and welfare.
    • A positive demeanor
    • The ability to be focused and detail-oriented
    • A positive work ethic
    • The ability to work in a group or individually
    • A negative tuberculin (TB) skin test (or lung x-ray) results are required; COVID vaccinations are preferred.

    Volunteer Applicants must be:

    • At least 18 years or older
    • Able to work outdoors in hot or cold weather
    • Available to volunteer at least one 4-hour weekly shift for at least 6 months. Two shifts (8:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M. and 1:00 to 5:00 P.M.) are available and preferred by the Zoo Curator. In exceptional circumstances, other shifts can be made available.
