Volunteers will be trained by zoo staff to assist with the following projects:
- Horticultural projects such as raking leaves, weeding, watering plants, and disposing of leaf
- litter
- Cleaning/organizing animal carriers, animal enrichment items, nets, and other items
- Assisting Education staff with their projects
- Assisting with administrative projects such as organizing files and documents; updating
- animal information in an animal records-keeping system called ZIMS
- Assisting with guest services
Volunteer Applicants must have:
- A strong commitment to advancing the zoo’s goals in supporting animal conservation, education, and welfare.
- A positive demeanor
- The ability to be focused and detail-oriented
- A positive work ethic
- The ability to work in a group or individually
- A negative tuberculin (TB) skin test (or lung x-ray) results are required; COVID vaccinations are preferred.
Volunteer Applicants must be:
- At least 18 years or older
- Able to work outdoors in hot or cold weather
- Available to volunteer at least one 4-hour weekly shift for at least 6 months. Two shifts (8:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M. and 1:00 to 5:00 P.M.) are available and preferred by the Zoo Curator. In exceptional circumstances, other shifts can be made available.
