Part-Time Warehouse Manager / Dispatch Coordinator

Location: 266 Morse St, Hamden, CT

    Compensation: $23/hour | Part-time (hours TBD)

    Start Date: ASAP

Haven’s Harvest is a fast-growing food rescue nonprofit working to reduce food waste and feed communities across Connecticut. Each week, we connect surplus food from grocery stores, farmers markets, and institutions to over 200 local nonprofits serving people facing food insecurity. With a volunteer base of 300+ and a custom-built app that functions like the DoorDash of food rescue, we’re building a more efficient, compassionate, and local food system—one delivery at a time.

We’re looking for a reliable, proactive Warehouse Manager / Dispatch Coordinator to keep things moving at our central hub. You’ll be reporting directly to the Director of Operations (who is currently on paternity leave), with hands-on support from our tight-knit team of staff and volunteers.

    Key Responsibilities

    🚛 Dispatch Operations

    • Coordinate daily food recovery and delivery routes using our Food Rescue Hero app
    • Communicate with volunteer drivers and partner nonprofits to ensure timely and efficient operations
    • Monitor and adjust routes as needed based on real-time updates and needs
    • Serve as the on-call point of contact during active dispatch windows (on-site or remote)

    🏢 Warehouse Operations

    • Oversee incoming and outgoing food at our warehouse in Hamden
    • Receive, sort, label, and organize rescued food by partner and route
    • Adhere to all food safety and handling procedures, including daily refrigerator temperature checks
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient warehouse space
    • Support and guide volunteers during on-site shifts

    What We’re Looking For

    • Organized and tech-comfortable (especially with apps and spreadsheets)
    • Clear communicator who thrives in fast-moving environments
    • Ability to lift 20–40 lbs and be on your feet during active shifts
    • Respectful, community-minded, and aligned with our mission to end food waste and hunger
    • Takes direction well with commitment to followthrough and getting the work done
    • Great customer service skills talking with partners and volunteers
    • Has reliable transportation and can use your car to help distribute food when needed
    • Has, or is willing to obtain, ServSafe certification (Haven’s Harvest will cover the cost)

    Why Join Us?

Haven’s Harvest isn’t your average food nonprofit—we’re part food rescue crew, part tech-enabled logistics team, and fully mission-driven. You'll be joining an organization that:

    • Supports over 200 nonprofit partners on the frontlines of hunger relief
    • Has 300+ active volunteers helping us recover and redistribute food daily
    • Uses a powerful custom-built app to streamline operations and maximize impact
    • Runs on flexibility, mutual support, and a shared commitment to doing good work well
    • We do 30,000lbs a week of rescued food on our way to the 10million lbs total this summer. Last year we did 1.8 million lbs of food rescued and redistributed.

This is a great opportunity to play a key role in our operations, especially during a moment of transition and growth. You’ll start off reporting to our Director of Operations while they are on paternity leave and will work closely with staff across our team.
