    This full-time permanent position is for immediate hire and reports to the Board of Directors. Ashiyanaa seeks an experienced leader to serve as Executive Director (ED) with responsibility to ensure achievement of the organization’s mission by implementing its strategy, oversee day-to-day management, administer programs, and work on development activities.. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker, goal oriented, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a passion for Ashiyanaa’s mission. Demonstrated nonprofit management experience is a must. South Asian cultural awareness a plus.

    Ashiyaana (formerly ASHA for Women) is a 501(c) (3) organization that was founded in 1989 to provide culturally-competent support services to South Asian women and children impacted by interpersonal violence also known as domestic violence. Since then, we have expanded to include senior services, and create awareness of and prevent interpersonal violence.

    We serve individuals and families of South Asian heritage, with origins in the South Asian countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka without discrimination or bias.

    Ashiyanaa’s services are culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed to increase positive outcomes, and include crisis intervention, community and legal referrals, career and mental health counseling, and financial and housing support to empower our clients to become self-reliant.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

    • Provide mission-focused leadership to implement core values and expand services in coordination with the Board
    • Review and revise the strategic plan every 5 years to refresh services based on target audience’s needs, and to establish achievable goals
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations including programs, staff, finances, and outreach
    • Manage and motivate staff and their professional development
    • Cultivate a positive, inclusive working environment
    • Communicate management and strategic decisions to the Board on a monthly basis or more immediately when significant in nature
    • Represent Ashiyanaa and promote a positive organizational image to local governments, and community partners
    • Serve as advocate with partners for South Asian community’s challenges and needs around Ashiyanaa’s mission

    FUNDRAISING & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (responsibilities in this area will ramp up over time)

    • Design and execute a development strategy; including actively cultivating relationships and opportunities with a broad spectrum of funders expanding revenue generating and fundraising activities, particularly grant writing.
    • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and governments
    • Manage reporting and renewal deadlines and ensure compliance with all grants and contracts.
    • Actively manage organization’s finances through hands-on budgetary oversight, including approving time sheets and expenditures
    • Communicate grant/contract performance and financial activities to the Board on a monthly basis in collaboration with the Board Treasurer.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree and 2-3+ years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree and 4- 5+ years of equivalent experience is required; Social Work experience is highly desirable.
    • Demonstrated experience serving as senior management with responsibilities in the areas of nonprofit personnel management, fiscal oversight, and program administration.
    • Demonstrated experience designing, planning and executing programs and services aligned to organizational mission that address target audience’s needs
    • Demonstrated experience in fundraising and grant writing, and administration of grants and contracts including compliance with government contracts.
    • Willingness to play a key role in development and building and maintaining relationships with key funders.
    • Proven track record of growing organizational capacity, and impact through programs and outreach
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
    • Strong advocacy skills and confidence in public speaking
    • Ability to communicate a genuine passion for Ashiyanaa’s mission to staff, partners, and other stakeholders
    • Familiarity with the needs of South Asian communities
    • Prior work experience with Interpersonal violence, seniors, youth and/or crisis intervention is highly desirable.
    • Demonstrated experience using technology for management including Office Suite.

    WORK LOCATION

    Hybrid position with the expectation that the candidate will work a regular schedule during normal working hours of 9AM - 5PM. The candidate will be required to be in the office three days per week, subject to change based on the needs of the organization and parameters set by the Board. The candidate will also be expected to attend conferences, programs, and community outreach events, as needed, in the evening and on the weekend.
