ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
CityWorks DC’s mission is to dramatically improve the early career outcomes of DC youth and young adults by creating innovative programs and by mobilizing employers, educators, and city leaders to create a local, diverse talent pipeline. Our vision is that all young people in DC have the “social mobility trifecta”: 1) valuable certifications and credentials; 2) paid, relevant work experience; and 3) a supportive professional network. To provide this trifecta to all students, especially those who are marginalized and historically overlooked, CityWorks DC focuses its work on redesigning how young people experience high school, postsecondary, and early employment into multiple pathways to high-wage, high-demand careers. To accomplish this bold vision, CityWorks DC’s theory of change has two complementary strands: 1) launch a targeted set of innovative programs that work directly with young people; and 2) lead citywide initiatives designed to create lasting change in our education and training systems for DC youth.
Run by CityWorks DC, CareerWise DC is an innovative, two- to three-year, modern youth apprenticeship program that is the first of its kind to be offered to high school students in DC. CareerWise prepares DC high schoolers and recent graduates for competitive, high-wage careers in fields such as business operations, information technology, finance, and—starting in 2025—healthcare. The new healthcare pathway will be a one-year bridge program that places graduating seniors in paid apprenticeships in local hospital systems, health clinics, and other health care providers.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Manager, Apprentice Recruitment & Support manages the relationships, programming, and operations critical to the success of our first apprenticeship in healthcare. In this role, the Manager collaborates with our high school and employer partners to recruit excellent candidates, guides applicants through preparations for the application and interview process, and creates a successful onboarding for apprentices. The Manager assists employer partners with developing a strong apprenticeship program and implements the necessary CareerWise apprenticeship components, connecting with apprentices along the way to support their success.
This role will have a special responsibility for managing our first apprenticeship pathway in healthcare and will have the unique opportunity to recruit graduating high school seniors at healthcare-related programs at Advanced Technical Centers and CTE academies in the District, and then support selected graduates throughout their year-long apprenticeship.
Day-to-day, the Manager will lead key projects that include the apprentice recruitment process, executing virtual and in-person programming and events, managing the CareerWise Hub application and training platform, and coordinating partner and apprentice onboarding processes for the healthcare pathway. In addition to managing program administration and operations for CareerWise DC, the Manager also supports broader CityWorks DC projects and priorities; this includes updating data tracking platforms, developing internal administrative systems, and executing other administrative duties as assigned.
This full-time position reports to the Director of Programs and Partnerships and collaborates closely across the CityWorks DC team. This Manager also works closely with designated team members from the DC Hospital Association (DCHA), which serves as the lead in engaging CareerWise DC’s employer partners for the healthcare apprenticeship and managing the broader healthcare pathway project.
CityWorks DC operates in a hybrid working environment, with in-person attendance at our Washington, DC office required at least one day/week for programmatic activities, team planning and retreats, and other organizational events. No relocation funding will be provided. Strongly preferred start date is January 2, 2025.
