    Operations Associate for Democracy

    MapLight, an innovative, award-winning nonprofit that builds software to improve democracy, is seeking an Operations Associate to join our mission-driven team. This position will play a key role in supporting the Director of Operations with managing the day-to-day operations of our organization, with primary responsibilities focused on operations, development, and systems processes.

    As MapLight is a small team, we are seeking someone who is highly organized who is willing to be flexible, adaptive, and collaborative. An ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and a generalist skill set, and be open to learning new skills. This position is full-time and can be remote within the U.S., although a preference will be given to candidates who reside in the SF Bay Area in California.

    In this role you will provide:

    Operations Support

    • Monitor general inbox and respond to external inquiries as a representative of MapLight
    • Maintain and update internal documentation of processes and workflows
    • Assist Director of Operations with hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance operations efficiency

    Accounting Support

    • Support our accounting firm’s needs, including route incoming invoices for approval, maintaining deposit logs, and appropriately coding credit card and reimbursement expenses

    Development Support

    • Maintain electronic files of donations
    • Generate donor acknowledgment letters on a rolling basis and annual year-end mailing
    • Assist with sales pipeline tracking

    General Support

    • Assist with projects as needed

    Ideal candidates will possess many of the following qualifications:

    • Minimum 2 years experience in an operations or project management role
    • Strong organizational skills that reflect an ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with a high level of attention to detail
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills with a desire to work collaboratively
    • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving
    • The ability to execute projects independently while exercising good judgment and discretion
    • Strong computer proficiency with experience in database or project management programs
    • The ability to pivot and adjust priorities responsive to short- and long-term needs
    • Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
    • Willingness to learn new technologies and skills

    Salary and Benefits

    This position is full-time and remote within the U.S., although there is a preference for someone who is local to the SF Bay Area who can come into the Berkeley office 2-4x a month. MapLight has two staff get-togethers a year, which are currently held in Berkeley.

    The salary for this position is $50,000 to $70,000, depending on experience. This position includes a generous benefits package that includes paid vacation, health, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement matching. A four-day schedule (Monday through Thursday) may be possible, depending on the organizational needs.
