    Description

TASSC is looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Employer Outreach and Career Development Coordinator. This role is integral to our mission of supporting survivors of torture by helping them achieve their career goals and secure meaningful employment. If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and have experience in career development and working with vulnerable populations, we encourage you to apply.

As an Employer Outreach and Career Development Coordinator, you will work closely with survivors to create individualized career plans, develop relationships with local employers, and coordinate our Professional Mentorship Program. You will also help survivors navigate training programs and provide support to those interested in starting small businesses. Your efforts will directly contribute to empowering survivors, helping them rebuild their lives, and fostering a supportive community.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Conduct individual and group intakes with survivors to determine their short and long-term career goals. Assist survivors with the creation of individualized career development plans.
    • Develop and cultivate relationships with local employers to develop direct pathways to employment for TASSC survivors. Set up in-person meetings with at least ten local employers and maintain ongoing relationships.
    • Coordinate TASSC’s Professional Mentorship Program – recruit local professionals, provide orientations, match professionals with survivors, conduct routine check-ins with mentors and mentees, and collect data and feedback related to the program.
    • Recruit, train, and manage a group of undergraduate-level workforce volunteers.
    • Communicate relevant industry trends and employment needs to program managers and develop program responses as needed.
    • Prepare survivors for job interviews through mock interviews and coaching exercises.
    • Develop bi-monthly workforce newsletters; send out regular communication to survivors on employment and training opportunities.
    • Keep a well-organized database of employer records and survivor case notes.
    • Plan employment workshops, hiring events, and education fairs.
    • Set up meetings with staff from vocational and technical programs, including local community colleges, focusing on the health, IT, and accounting sectors.
    • Identify short-term employment opportunities for survivors in various sectors.
    • Interview at least ten employed TASSC survivors to gather feedback on matching unemployed or underemployed survivors with jobs.

    Job Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social services, business, or finance.
    • A minimum of two years of experience working with people who have barriers to employment or immigrant populations.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high aptitude for teaching.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Mailchimp, resume and cover letter writing, and using job search engines.
    • Experience conducting group workshops or training for job readiness skills.
    • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and record-keeping abilities.
    • Ability to tailor learning activities to meet group and individual needs.
    • Ability to establish partnerships with local businesses.
    • Flexibility in scheduling meetings and other communications with employers, schools, and survivors, including occasional evenings or weekends if necessary.
    • Self-motivated, confident, and comfortable working in stressful situations.
    • Trauma-informed with a commitment to learning about the impact of torture on survivors, families, and communities.
    • Utmost level of confidentiality and sensitivity in working with survivors of torture.
    • Fluency in a second language is a plus.
