    Job Description

    The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press seeks a Senior Manager of Development to support the fundraising and donor relations needs of a growing and vibrant nonprofit organization. The position will report to the Vice President of Development and support the organization’s fundraising and donor relations needs with a focus on internal workflows, processes, and development operations.

    The Reporters Committee has significantly expanded in the past five years and maintains a growing portfolio of program-specific and general support funding relationships in the institutional philanthropy field. As the organization and its donor relations needs continue to grow, the Senior Manager of Development will oversee the internal development operations and support the Vice President and the Executive team in their engagement with funders and external stakeholders.

    This position is well suited for a highly organized person with an excellent understanding of development operations, great writing and editing skills, and the ability to effectively communicate the Reporters Committee’s mission and vision. Knowledge of Salesforce and/or other development databases is highly desired. The Reporters Committee will support candidates with formal training opportunities to develop skills in relevant fields such as grant proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation, and grant reporting.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Manage calendar of funder deadlines, tasks, assignments, and results to ensure prompt, comprehensive completion of deliverables to funders
    • Draft and assemble supporting materials for proposals and reports, such as budget, organizational, and governance documents
    • Prospect for potential funding support including general support, national litigation and policy work, state-specific efforts, and program initiatives
    • Support donor stewardship processes, including Gala and other event sponsorships and recognition opportunities.
    • Support implementation of fundraising plans targeting major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
    • Support and participate in donor outreach events, funder/prospect meetings/etc. with senior leadership and legal team members as appropriate
    • Collaborate with relevant staff to set goals and targets for the annual fundraising portfolio (Foundations, Gala, Individuals, Corporate and Media partners, etc.)
    • Supervise Development Coordinator, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate development goals into broader strategic plans.
    • Other Development duties as assigned

    Reporting and Management Responsibilities

    • Reports to the Vice President of Development.
    • Guide grant deliverables and reporting schedule including coordination with Development, Finance, and Communications staff
    • Supports leadership team, provides input on organizational strategy
    • Oversees Development Coordinator, interns

    Qualifications

    • At least 7-10 years of relevant experience
    • A high level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Proficiency with Salesforce (specifically Nonprofit Success Pack) strongly preferred, other development CRMs welcome
    • Strong organizational and data skills to track relationships and deadlines
    • Familiarity with major gifts and institutional funding cycle, from prospecting through cultivation, solicitation, grant management, and stewardship of funding relationships
    • Familiarity with core development data tools (i.e., Foundation Center Directory, etc.)

    Compensación

    Senior Manager salary range, based on experience, $82,200-$93,600 for a candidate based in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Our generous benefit package should also be considered. For all regular full-time positions, the Reporters Committee offers:

    • A competitive base salary with 3 weeks paid time off, 4 annual floating days, and all Federal holidays;
    • A retirement savings plan, including a 5% employer contribution after 3 months of service;
    • Comprehensive employer paid insurance coverage, including medical, dental, vision, life and accidental death, and disability;
    • Ability to use pre-tax dollars for dependent care and commuting expenses.
