    Summary of Position

    The Deputy Director is a position leading internal facing responsibilities while supporting a growing team and furthering the organization’s continued transformation. The Deputy Director will lead in Administration & Finance, Human Resources, Culture, and Organizational Development; and support in Fundraising, Strategy, and External Relations. The Deputy Director will assume responsibilities in lieu of the Executive Director in the event of representation, absence, and/or as requested.

    The Deputy Director serves as a seasoned leader who can operate on internally-focused strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels and help guide the organization across programmatic and administrative functions.

    The Deputy Director must demonstrate a highly focused social justice lens, excellent communications, relationship-building skills, as well as the innate ability to promote clear goals and be a visionary for change. Ideal candidates will bring substantial connections to the Black, Brown, Native, and other minoritized communities.

    Responsibilities

    Strategic Planning

    • Support the development of the 2025 organizational strategic plan.
    • Oversee performance metrics and matrixes for key deliverables and accountability reporting for results.
    • Develop organizational goals while periodically monitoring progress.
    • Manage key projects and special initiatives that relate to organizational growth.

    Operational

    • Provide oversight of internal operations, including Human Resources/Legal, Office Management/IT, Finance, Governance, and Development, including:
      • HR priorities include developing and implementing effective talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, learning, and development policies; sustaining an internal culture that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice; and appropriate internal and external legal compliance and risk management. Provide high-level input to inform staffing decisions related to growth, performance, and accountability.
      • Financial priorities include budgeting, reporting, audits, and compliance, especially accounting for restricted funds. Provide high-level input to inform decisions the organization makes regarding financial risks, such as contracts and insurance policies.
      • IT priorities include identifying, maintaining, and ensuring staff are trained on applications for organizational needs; navigating and improving data systems to ensure efficiency, organization, and cybersecurity; and supporting remote work arrangements.
    • Monitor, evaluate, and improve the organization’s performance systems as they relate to programs and development data; track prospective funders to align with outputs and outcomes.
    • Oversee complex and cross-departmental projects that contribute to our mission.
    • Cultivate culture development, advancement, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice (DEIJ) and impact measures organization-wide.

    Staff Management and Supervisory

    • Provide coaching and training to support staff members in reaching long-term goals.
    • Co-facilitate Leadership Table and Board team meetings.

    Board Relations

    • Provide support in oversight to the Board Governance.
    • Lead relevant internal reports to MNEJ Table’s Board.

    Required Qualifications

    • Senior management experience in a dynamic, responsive environment.
    • A proven track record of strategic financial management and strategic planning.
    • Experience creating and managing budgets.
    • A collaborative approach to supervision and leadership with experience in effective team development.
    • Effective staff management, coaching, and development are necessary.
    • Experience navigating complex issues and making difficult decisions.
    • An ability to make necessary decisions, effectively manage diverse responsibilities, and establish and implement clear work priorities.
    • Experience in working within diverse coalitions or networks.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • An organized and motivated individual, capable of managing deadlines and fluctuating priorities for various projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
    • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on oppressed and frontline communities.
    • The ability to collaborate with other staff and partners is essential.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • A minimum of one year of experience in a senior or executive leadership role.
    • Proven commitment to environmental, economic, social, and racial justice.
    • Community organizing experience

    Compensación

    100% of premiums for MNSure gold medical plans and Mnsure silver dental plans covering the employee and their partner, and 50% of the incremental cost for coverage of any dependents (employer-provided healthcare with similar coverage will be available in 2025). Retirement, short - and long-term disability. 12 holidays, 10 sick days, 22 vacation days, and other benefits. The MNEJT Office is closed for two weeks, in December-January. Paid professional development.
