    Description

Photographer Volunteer for Environmental Ambassadors Program

Environmental Leaders of Color (ELOC) is a non-profit organization that teaches youth about climate change, encourages and provides young people with opportunities to enter climate-related fields, and offers community members with strategies to survive in a climate destructive world. Its Environmental Student Ambassador Program gathers teams of students from participating high schools—including Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and Port Chester—to learn about hazardous household materials and the importance of clean drinking water. The teens will then perform outreach, present informed research, design graphics, and more. We are seeking volunteers of all ages to express their interest in joining this project and helping us advocate for a safer water system.

Volunteers with photography experience are needed to help document our student teams in their outreach activities throughout the program. This will likely include attending our in-person events such as farmer's markets, street fairs, or other community events to take photos of the students. Events will be held primarily in the target cities of Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and Port Chester, but may be located in neighboring towns, as well.

The SEA Program is a great way to get involved with your local communities/youth and spread awareness - or learn something yourself - about water quality and safe drinking water. Water crises are real and happening right here in NY, and it's critical to bring these issues to the forefront of our minds and rethink our relationship with water.

    Volunteer requirements:

    • Age 18+, or 14+ with consent from a parent or legal guardian
    • Must enjoy inspiring and working with high school students
    • Experience in the aforementioned field of photography + a working professional camera
    • Reliable transportation or a valid driver's license
    • An interest in water quality and environmental justice a bonus and always welcome

    Time commitments:

    • The program attends up to ~6 in-person events per academic semester.
    • Express any availability between the months of August 2024-June 2025; availability is accepted on a rolling basis.
