    Board Member

Are you passionate about making a difference in the arts community in Washington, DC? Do you wish to work with diverse communities while impacting their community spirit? We are looking for you! Put your passion to work by joining the Board of Directors of Ngoma Center for Dance. We are recruiting new board members to help steer the organization toward a sustainable future, meet the needs of artists, supporters, and community shareholders, and ensure the organization has the necessary resources to advance its mission. The organization is led by an effective Founding Director and dedicated support staff committed to excellence and service.

Ngoma Center for Dance (N-Go-mah) is a 501(c)3 arts organization whose mission is to provide a conduit between multicultural dance artists and their enthusiasts, across generations and social classes, with a deeper understanding of the art of dance through intense community integration, inspirational performance, competitive training, and artist development. Our efforts benefit the greater Washington, DC area through equitable arts education access, job opportunities, and artist development.

We are a "citizen artist" organization and we believe the arts are a vital part of the economic and social tapestry that make us (and the world) better. We are the only Black-managed, nationally-recognized, contemporary ballet company between New York City and Atlanta, as well as the only Black-owned dance organization to work with Netflix. We produce arts programming in DC proper, Fairfax County, Virginia, Prince George’s, and Montgomery County, Maryland.

This is a great opportunity for arts-minded community supporters to serve the greater Washington, DC area. Board terms are two years each with a three-term limit. Meetings are held quarterly on Zoom.

We currently have five opportunities for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Fundraising: Do you have a knack for securing resources and building strong donor relationships?

Law: Are you well-versed in legal matters and governance structures that can benefit our organization?

Medicine: Do you have a background in healthcare or wellness that can contribute to our dance medicine program?

Real Estate in Washington, DC: Are you knowledgeable about real estate trends and development in the DC area?

Art: Are you passionate about the arts and have a creative vision to support our artistic endeavors?

Education: Are you committed to empowering young minds through educational programs like our Summer DanceLab?

Join us in our mission to support fellow arts organizations, engage with the community, and drive organizational success. Your skills and expertise can help us continue to thrive and positively impact Washington, DC's arts landscape. If you are interested, please complete our online application.
