NGOMA CENTER FOR DANCE

  • About Us

From being the only DC dance organization to work with Netflix to managing the only Black-managed, nationally-recognized, contemporary ballet company (east coast) between New York City and Atlanta, Ngoma Center for Dance is impacting the Greater Washington, DC area through equitable arts access, job opportunities, and artist development. Since 2012, Ngoma Center for Dance (acquiring Dissonance Dance Theatre – founded in 2008 – as a program in 2012) has produced arts programming in DC proper, Fairfax County, Virginia, Prince George’s, and Montgomery County, Maryland.

Our Mission: To provide a conduit between multicultural dance artists and their enthusiasts across generations and social classes, with a deeper understanding of the art of dance through intense community integration, inspirational performance, competitive training, and artist development.

Our Vision: To present a performing dance company known locally, nationally, and internationally for its brilliance in contemporary ballet and innovative dance works; train all students with the utmost refinement and education best-practices; and to enrich the lives of communities through our love of dance and theatre.
