    American Red Cross: Disaster Response - Because Emergencies Can't Wait! (Baltimore County, MD)

    The American Red Cross

    has high-priority need for Disaster Action Team Responders. Disaster Responders train to respond to local disasters in their community, 90% of which are home fires. Disaster Responders are then on call for weekly shifts, able to respond to neighbors in need when disaster strikes. They provide hope, comfort, and financial assistance for immediate needs such as food, clothing, and shelter when people are displaced from their homes. All training provided.     Volunteer Responsibilities: As an DAT Responder, you will:

    ·      Work as part of the Disaster Action Team to support the local disaster response efforts;

    o  Train and prepare for the position, serving ‘on-call’ shifts each week;

    o  Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings, communicate regularly with the team;

    o  Respond to local disasters such as home fires, flooding or storm damage within two hours;

    o  Deliver immediate direct client assistance, in-person;

    o  Working with ‘on-scene’ lead to determine if additional resources/support is required.

    Qualifications:

    ·      Demonstrated ability to treat people with respect under all circumstances and instill trust in others;

    ·      Solid computer skills including use of internet search tools, video conferencing tools, intranet and Microsoft Office Suite;

    ·      Successfully clear a standard background check;

    ·      Must be 18 years of age or older.

    Time Commitment:

    ·      Time Commitment of 8 hours “on-call” per week;

    ·      Shifts available in 4 hour blocks Monday- Sunday; all hours, with greatest need early mornings and weekends.

    ·      Commitment of at least 1 year.
