    Description

Save Lives From Your Couch--Become a Volunteer Crisis Counselor! (remote)

Mental health is a top concern in our communities. As a Crisis Text Line volunteer, you can actively provide support to people struggling with anxiety, depression, loneliness, stress, and other difficult situations affecting their mental health. What’s best about this opportunity is that it is fully remote, which means you can be a changemaker for someone from the comfort of your couch.

Crisis Text Line provides free, confidential, 24/7, text-message-based support for people in crisis in English and Spanish. Our service is powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors who have received our training and are equipped to support others in their moments of need through active listening techniques, de-escalation strategies and empathy.

Volunteering at Crisis Text Line is a significant and rewarding experience. As you learn how to empathize with people’s unique struggles through collaborative problem solving, you may find yourself developing new skills in communication and self-awareness that can benefit both your personal relationships and professional life while making a positive impact in the lives of others.

HOW DO YOU BECOME A VOLUNTEER CRISIS COUNSELOR?

    1. Create an account and fill out the 20-minute application at signup.crisistextline.org
    2. Complete the 15-hour web-based training, including consenting to a background check
    3. Take your first shift and start changing lives. You will commit to volunteering 200 hours, ideally over the course of a year (4 hours/week). Volunteering can be done in 2-hour increments.

Crisis Text Line is an equal opportunity organization. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and volunteer Crisis Counselors.
