    Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower communities with opportunity where justice-impacted women heal, excel, and lead while

disrupting systems of oppression and harm.

    We believe in...

    • Valuing: Every person has inherent value and holds the power of possibility and transformation within them.
    • Investing: Public resources are better invested in opportunities for transformation than on prisons and punishment.
    • Leading: Formerly incarcerated people must be at the forefront in creating solutions to the incarceration crisis.
    • Healing: Incarceration of one family member affects the entire family. The healing process must involve families as well.
    • Mentoring: By sharing the ANWOL model locally, nationally, and internationally, we are influencing and fostering profound and positive changes in areas with the greatest need.

    About Us

New Way of Life Reentry Project is a grassroots, nonprofit organization founded in 1998 by Susan Burton, a formerly incarcerated individual who intimately understands the challenges women face upon leaving prison. Originally established as a sober living home for women, the organization has grown into a comprehensive reentry program with a mission to help women and girls break free from the cycle of entrapment in the criminal justice system, empowering them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

    Our Impact

    • Safe Housing: Over 1,200 formerly incarcerated individuals have found safety and support in our homes.
    • Family Reunification: More than 400 residents have been reunited with their children.
    • Growth: We now operate 10 SAFE homes across Los Angeles County.

    Our Mission and Goals

    1. Provide Safe Housing: Create clean, sober-living environments where formerly incarcerated women and their children can feel welcomed and supported during their transition to community life.
    2. Empower Through Education and Training: Offer education, job training, and skill-building opportunities to prepare residents for self-sufficiency and independence.
    3. Advocate for Justice: Serve as a leader in community advocacy, championing the rights of formerly incarcerated individuals and their families.

With steadfast commitment and steady growth, A New Way of Life Reentry Project continues to be a beacon of hope, helping individuals and families rebuild their lives and fostering a path toward lasting change.
