    Position Summary

    The EdGE Primary Youth Development Coordinator helps deliver Mission Downeast initiatives that leverage education, leadership, experiential, outdoor activities, and mentoring-based programs to build youth engagement, aspirations, and resilience. This position supports EdGE afterschool and summer camp program with a focus on students in K-8. This position is responsible for managing staff, planning, and overseeing an EdGE afterschool site and summer camp location. 

    • Support EdGE programs to plan, deliver, and lead developmentally appropriate activities for students, in K –8th grade; and their families
    • Collaborate with other departments and programs, to plan and deliver activities for EdGE
    • Oversee programming and staff at afterschool partners site during the school year and during summer camp
    • Connect families to other Downeast Campus programs and resources when applicable 
    • Ensure that all activities are carried out in a manner consistent with the highest safety standards to maintain a positive and safe environment for youth, families, and staff; use exceptional judgement. 
    • Act as a positive role model and mentor; model appropriate behaviors. 
    • Collect and record data on attendance and activities; assist with program evaluation tools 
    • Comfortable communicating with parents, staff and co-workers
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor 

    Responsibilities

    Core Responsibilities

    • Provide a safe and welcoming environment for all EdGE afterschool participants
    • Supervise, train and mentor part-time staff at afterschool program
    • Oversee site specific administrative activities such as approving timesheets, time change requests, PTO requests, scheduling of staff, and summiting weekly reports 
    • Oversee medication administration, incident reports and other program related documentation
    • Maintain and use CampBrain for attendance and relevant student information
    • Act as a positive role model and mentor to both staff and students
    • Attend meetings as instructed by supervisor 
    • Support in the effort of data collecting for program evaluation purposes when applicable 
    • Support the Mission’s marketing efforts by submitting photos weekly to the Marketing Department 

    Programming Responsibilities

    • Implement activities that support education program goals 
    • Assist with program evaluation tools  
    • Work as team with other EdGE Primary Program staff to design and deliver EdGE Primary Marion Kane Leadership program

    Qualifications

    Core Qualifications

    • Knowledge of positive youth development, social-emotional learning, and/or mentoring-based methods and/or programs
    • Previous experience working with young people and/or experience teaching or facilitating
    • Excellent facilitation and communication skills
    • Strong leadership qualities such as delegating tasks, active listening, ability to give and receive feedback
    • Strong emotional regulation skills
    • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to take the initiative and work independently, as well as cooperate with a team
    • Ability to motivate students and colleagues, work as part of a team, and relate youth at various life stages, both in groups and individually
    • Commitment to maintaining a positive and safe environment for students, participants and fellow workers
    • Desire to make a positive impact on youth and families’ lives; be caring, compassionate, creative, and have a sense of humor

    Required Education and Experience

    • High school degree with some college experience 
    • At least two years of experience supervising and mentoring staff

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Lived experience that reflects the communities we serve
    • Belaying experience and experience leading groups on ropes or challenge course 
    • Kayaking, hiking experience
    • Lifeguard Certification helpful 

    Special Qualifications and Certifications

    • Ropes or challenge course training or experience or willingness to be trained 
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain 

    Position Conditions and Requirements

    Work Environment

    • Working outdoors in various weather conditions 
    • Office environment for planning work 
    • School environment when running programming

    Physical Demands

    • Physical ability and stamina for outdoor excursions during summer camp 
    • Ability to move up to 30 pounds
    • Be comfortable belaying on a challenge course
    • Ability to communicate verbally and visually to maintain safe conditions

    Travel Requirements

    • Drive a 15-passenger van with individuals in the vehicle  
    • Clean driver’s license 

    Compensation 

    This is a full-time, exempt position based on a 40-hour work week. The salary range is $45,760 to $52,000 with excellent benefits.
