    Job Overview

    The Membership Director will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow and retain the Arts Council’s membership base, including non-profit arts organizations, individual artists, and arts workers. The role will focus on increasing revenue from memberships while simultaneously creating and implementing strategies that enhance the value of membership and serve the needs of members. The Membership Director will play a key role in building relationships, driving engagement, and positioning the Arts Council as a critical resource for the arts community. The Membership Director will also play a large role in building out the membership department.

    What You’ll Be Working On

    • Membership Growth and Revenue Strategy:
      • Develop and implement a comprehensive membership recruitment and retention strategy.
      • Identify and pursue opportunities to increase revenue from membership, including through tiered memberships, special benefits, and additional services.
      • Conduct market analysis to assess membership trends and pricing strategies.
    • Member Services & Engagement:
      • Design and oversee benefits and services that respond to the diverse needs of non-profit arts organizations, individual artists, and arts workers.
      • Create member engagement strategies, including networking events, direct services, and resource-sharing initiatives.
      • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure members are aware of and utilize all services and programs offered.
    • Relationship Management:
      • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective members, serving as a primary point of contact within the organization.
      • Regularly solicit feedback from members to understand their evolving needs and challenges, and tailor services accordingly.
      • Work closely with the Communications team to create compelling membership marketing materials, including newsletters, emails, and promotional campaigns.
    • Data Management and Reporting:
      • Maintain accurate and up-to-date membership records, tracking key performance metrics such as recruitment, retention, and satisfaction rates.
      • Provide regular reports to the Executive leadership team and Board of Directors on membership revenue, growth, and engagement.
    • Collaborations and Partnerships:
      • Identify potential partnerships and collaborations that would enhance member benefits and create additional value for members.
      • Represent the Arts Council at community events, meetings, and conferences to promote membership and develop relationships with arts stakeholders.
    • Budget and Resource Management:
      • Develop and manage the membership program’s budget, ensuring cost-effective delivery of member services.
      • Work with the finance team to develop accurate membership revenue forecasts and ensure timely membership renewals.

    What You’ll Bring to the Role

    • Ability to analyze market trends and identify opportunities for tiered memberships and special benefits
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
    • Proficiency with membership management software and CRM tools
    • Experience tracking key performance metrics like recruitment and retention
    • Deep understanding of diverse communities and their specific needs in the arts world, including artists, arts organizations, and arts workers
    • Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations
    • 4+ years of experience in membership management, development, or a similar role, ideally in a non-profit or arts-related organization, preferred

    Also nice to have for this position:

    Budget management experience; Experience in identifying and cultivating partnerships with external organizations; Knowledge of philanthropy; Volunteer management experience; and multilingual.

    Benefits

    This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Occasional weekend and evening work may be necessary. Salary is posted at $60,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, vision, and dental insurance. Unlimited paid time off and thirteen (13) holidays. The Arts Council offers a Simple IRA with company match.

    Primarily Remote Workplace

    Work for this position primarily occurs remotely, with required in-person staff meetings once a week. It is important for employees to have access to reliable transportation, whether that be a personal vehicle or consistent access to public transportation. Employees are provided an organization-issued laptop for the duration of employment. When working remotely, you are expected to maintain a high-speed Internet connection supporting collaborative work, such as Zoom meetings. All full-time staff members receive a monthly stipend to support remote work.
