    About Position

    Objective: To build community power through individual and group leadership development training, workshops, and direct-action (including but not limited to protests, rallies, demonstrations, etc.)

    Job Duties

    Outreach and Organizing

    Organize around key environmental racism/environmental white supremacy issues facing the local community. Activities will include:

    • Organize a strategic youth membership drive through weekly Youth in Action! meetings at high schools in Southeast LA
    • Build genuine and caring relationships with youth and help build their socio-emotional and leadership skills
    • Conduct consistent youth outreach to maintain youth membership spaces
    • Recruit youth members to participate in the Fighting For Life Academy (EYCEJ’s leadership development program)
    • Mobilize youth members and the local community to events, public meetings, and important actions
    • Support youth membership in leading campaigns and programming activities
    • Work with Core Members and other EYCEJ Community Organizers to connect membership across the region (social gatherings, campaign activities, programming)
    • Develop relationships with schools, parks, allies, social service agencies, churches, government officials, business organizations, media, etc. based in serving our communities to identify ways of collaborating that will push EYCEJ’s agenda
    • Each organizer may have specific organizing projects based on school or region

    Community Stabilization

    • Develop leadership capacity for renters (including preparing for actions, making flyers, banners, etc); 2-1s (with housing organizer), preparing public comment, outreach, rides, co-facilitating CaRACol meetings
    • Coordinating communications with members in person and via apps
    • Tabling/general outreach/door-knocking (includes outreach for tabling opportunities)
    • Outreach for actions and meetings
    • Know Your Rights workshop support (confirming registrants, muting folks, letting people in zoom room)
    • 2-3 times weekly meetings; co-work meetings
    • Social Media engagement

    Administration

    • Create flyers and promotional materials, including social media.
    • Help to maintain the database of contacts and resources.
    • Maintain protocols for processing approved expenses and mileage reimbursement.
    • Work with Co-Executive Directors and team to ensure that the work plan is successful.
    • Develop environmental and social justice curriculum for youth meetings
    • Coordinate regular youth programming activities
    • Manage youth organizing budget for region
    • Collaborate with fellow youth organizers to plan inter-regional youth programming
    • Actively participate in team meetings and all organizer meetings
