    Overview of Position:

    The Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia, (LASEV), seeks a Finance Officer to be a key member of our management team and have direct responsibility for the firm’s accounting and financial operations. This is a full-time position located in our Norfolk office. Founded in 1966, LASEV is a non-profit public interest law firm serving low-income clients in a variety of civil legal matters. Our mission is to promote the equal application of justice and remove impediments to fairness for the low-income and vulnerable families of eastern Virginia. We strive to both meet the individual legal needs of our clients and to challenge systemic injustice and the root causes of poverty and inequality. A passion for justice and a commitment to poverty law is a must.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct all day-to-day accounting, expense allocation, and financial planning.
    • Preparation of financial reports and summaries for LASEV’s Board of Directors, Executive Director, and other staff as needed.
    • Collaborate with LASEV’s Director of Development to complete financial and budget aspects of grant proposals, allocate costs per grant requirements and ensure grant compliance, and fulfill related financial reporting obligations.
    • Provide annual audit support and prepare tax forms.

    Requirements:

    • Certified Public Accountant with at least 5 years of experience, preferably with a non-profit.
    • Demonstrated financial management and accounting experience.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required; experience with SAGE a plus.
    • Desire to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment that often requires multi-tasking and flexibility while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

    Salary & Benefits:

    Annual salary DOE, however starting salary is $80,000

    This position is full time (37.5 hours per week) on-site.
