    This is a teleworking position with the expectation to work from our office location in Millersville, MD on occasion.

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
    • At least seven years of progressive accounting experience. 
    • CPA certification, preferred.
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
    • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
    • Proficient in project management, the use of QuickBooks or similar accounting software, and Microsoft Office software including Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
    • High levels of integrity and trustworthiness.

    What You Will Do

    Under the direction of the Director of Accounting and Finance, the Assistant Controller will maintain accounting controls and prepare accurate financial information and financial reports to determine or maintain records of assets, liabilities, surplus or deficit, tax liability, or other financial activities within the organization.

    As the Assistant Controller, you will:

    • Supervise Payroll, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable functions.
    • Assist with preparing, analyzing, and consolidating monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
    • Be responsible for accurate general ledger maintenance, including but not limited to posting of month end journals, account reconciliations, and other period close activities; identify discrepancies and recommend solutions.
    • Produce, distribute, and present department-level financial reports monthly, explaining variances from budgets, and identifying trends; maintain appointment calendar for department-level financial meetings.
    • Assist with banking, payroll, AP, and AR transactional and ad hoc activities. 
    • Assist with external audits and required federal, state, and local tax and other government filings.
    • Work with the leadership team to analyze business and financial data and create internal controls and policies; maintain financial records and system processes with IT.
    • Develop automated reporting and forecasting tools for more efficient use of data.
    • Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures. 
    • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
