    Description

    About ITPC

ITPC is an issue-based global organization working to achieve health and social justice for all through robust community engagement. ITPC was birthed in 2003 in Cape Town, South Africa, by a committed group of 125 HIV activists from 65 countries who refused to accept a world in which people living with HIV were denied access to life-saving medicine. As ITPC grew into a Global Activist Network (GAN) advocating for the needs of communities affected by HIV and TB, it also laid the groundwork for community-driven work extending beyond singular diseases and addressing the systemic issues affecting people’s health and quality of life— exposing and resisting entrenched global power dynamics that consistently prioritize privilege and profit over the right to health and dignity. Today, we celebrate 20 years, highlighting progress in the fight for equitable access and affordability to treatment, amplifying community power, and building resilience within communities.

UNAIDS will support ITPC Global and its African partners to establish and implement activities of an African-led Civil Society Global Health Policy Consultative Group (ACG). This initiative aims to consolidate expertise, work synergistically with existing groups and coalitions, and create forums for dialogue, advocacy and action at community, country, and regional level. The intention is that this forum will explicitly work on health advocacy, systems, responses, and policies through its form (leadership structure, membership, constituencies), content (health equity across disease areas and populations, with attention to structural determinants of health), and process (transparent, inclusive, responsive to community priorities and accountable to them). We are currently recruiting for the role of African-led Consultative Group (ACG) Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the ACG initiatives across the African continent by facilitating collaboration, driving strategic discussions, building relationships with stakeholders and capacities of partners, and ensuring effective implementation goals. This is a full-time, site-bound role (based in Africa) with up to 45% travel, fixed term for 11 months.

    Core Responsibilities

    Strategic Management:

    • Oversee and manage the ACG to ensure alignment of functions with the goals and objectives of both ITPC and the ACG.
    • Provide strategic direction, foster a collaborative environment, develop and execute the ACG vision and strategic plan.
    • Determine metrics for success for ACG projects linked to IPTC monitoring and evaluation processes.
    • Drive fundraising initiatives including identification of donor opportunities and relationship building.

    Donor and ACG Management:

    • Be the focal point for project donor and co-partners, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, spend deliverables and impact.
    • Perform risk assessments and manage risk mitigation.
    • Ensure visibility of projects at national, regional and international level.
    • Analyse and report on consultative activities through progress reports.
    • Lead development and execution of projects responsive to needs and priorities of communities.
    • Oversee project budgets, timelines and resource allocation.

    Stakeholder Engagement and People management:

    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, technical partners, NGOs, community leaders and private sector partners.
    • Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders to support mutual objectives, representation and advocacy in global, regional and broader African meetings. Including preparation and delivery of reports to stakeholders.
    • Oversee the delivery of the team on all strategic, project and day-to-day activities. Organise and facilitate meetings at global, regional and national levels.
    • Manage the performance of all direct reports.

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree in public health or related field with minimum 10 years’ experience working in an African context, non-profit, philanthropic sector or related field.
    • In lieu or Master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree with 15 years of relevant experience.
    • Demonstratable experience managing complex multi-country projects with organisations of various levels (grassroots, community-based, NGOs, INGOs, etc.) including familiarity with HV landscape in African regions and continent.
    • Proven experience building the capacity of grassroots, community-based and NGOs to carry out community-led interventions, including but not limited to community-led monitoring, community-led research and advocacy.
    • Previous work with PEPFAR, UNAIDS, USAID, CDC, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria or Unitaid is advantageous.
    • Demonstrate familiarity with the Climate and Health nexus (partners, mode of operation, framework).
    • Advanced computer skills, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills, demonstrating high levels of personal integrity and professional credibility across populations.
    • Excellent leadership and people management skills, and comfort working collaboratively in-person and virtually (using Zoom, Skype and other tools).
    • Intuitive balance between macro and micro perspective when implementing a project (Strong attention to detail in the context of the bigger picture)
    • Ability to develop innovative solutions under resource-constrained settings with high levels of uncertainty.
    • Rigorous policy and advocacy expertise.
    • Strong written and oral communication (including presentation) skills in English. In addition to English, proficiency in Francophone and Anglophone language and culture and other languages and culture is advantageous.
    • Based in Africa – CET Time zone
