REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical Programs

MISSION STATEMENT George Mark Children’s House provides compassionate care to enhance quality of life for children with serious medical conditions and their families.

This is a per diem, minimum 16 hours a week up to 24 hours, non-exempt, non-benefitted position, which includes some weekends, evenings, and holidays. On-call duties and a minimum of two days per week on-site is required (option to occasionally work remotely upon supervisor approval).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

• Provide direct therapeutic counseling support for children, parents, and caregivers. Serve from triage to long-term as needed
• Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, staff, volunteers, and visitors
• Collaborate closely with psychosocial team to achieve optimal outcomes
• Implement, evaluate, and modify individual treatment goals and therapeutic plans of care
• Document therapy and patient/family interactions in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
• Utilize electronic medical record to complete written records for each patient including, but not limited to, intake notes, progress notes, treatment plans, and termination notes
• Conduct and update annual psychosocial assessments
• Work collaboratively with Medical Social Worker to conduct therapeutic group meetings including team debriefing sessions, parent resource group meetings, family meetings, and bereavement group gatherings
• Assist Child Life Specialist with sibling support and other Child Life events as requested
• Implement, reinforce, and abide by policies which ensure patient and family confidentiality
• Attend and participate in weekly interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings
• Participate in psychosocial outreach and events  Ongoing participation in pediatric palliative care educational opportunities

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge and practice of crisis intervention techniques; treatment of trauma, pain, suffering, grief, and loss
• Knowledge of lifespan issues within the realm of childhood development (as relates to patients and siblings) through adulthood (as relates to families and caregivers)
• Possession of excellent verbal and written skills. Fluency in second language helpful.
• Ability to effectively communicate in a manner easily understood by the patient and family
• Ability to read and understand clinical reports and professional literature
• Ability to perform psychosocial assessments by demonstrating psychological and developmental interviewing skills
• Ability to evaluate, implement, and modify individual treatment goals and therapeutic plans of care
• Ability to accurately recognize crisis situations, assess potential danger to patients, families, and/or others, and effectively intervene with support of the interdisciplinary team
• Ability to use independent judgment and manage confidential information appropriately within HIPAA guidelines
• Proficiency in maintaining electronic case records that are in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and other federal and state regulations
• Commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and contributing to a positive workplace culture
• Commitment to utilizing resources, wellness, and self-care practices to effectively cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stress of the role

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or licensed Psychologist
• Active, unrestricted license: free from record of ethics or boundary sanctions or reports of abuse
• Minimum of 2 years direct services with children and adolescents (may include practicum and/or internship experience)
• Documented expertise and training performing therapy with children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 0-25 years), as well as with individuals through adulthood

OTHER:

• Attend work reliably and consistently
• Respond to requests for support in a timely manner while on duty or on-call
• Communicate with a patient’s care team (i.e., PCP, psychiatrist, school) as necessary
• Complete miscellaneous documents for the organization or third parties as needed as relates to the role or patient.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to interdisciplinary team members to optimize bandwidth, productivity, and work-life balance
• Perform family tours, support House events, and be available for other duties not specified
