Job Responsibilities for Part-time Administrative Assistant:
The Community Tax Law Project (CTLP) has an immediate part-time position opening (30 – 35 hours per week) for a Program Assistant. This individual will primarily conduct client intakes, process incoming mail and client documents, and assist the attorneys with some administrative functions, such as filing, preparing case files, and inputting client information into CTLP’s database. No tax experience is necessary for this position.
Assistant’s responsibilities include client intake (gathering basic demographic information about the client and their tax issue), managing CTLP’s intake phone line and email, contacting potential clients to determine their eligibility for CTLP’s services, and collecting information from potential clients about their tax issues. CTLP will train the successful candidate on all aspects of these processes. A successful candidate should be comfortable contacting potential clients by telephone and meeting with potential clients in person at the office, all within acceptable COVID safety protocols.
Administrative responsibilities include greeting clients, answering the incoming phone line, assisting with communications (emails and newsletters), maintaining office files, ordering supplies, and other related clerical functions.
The hours of this position can be flexible between 30 and 35 hours per week. No evenings or weekends will be required. Start times and end times can be arranged around most schedules. This is an in-person position, requiring the successful candidate to be present in CTLP’s office near Willow Lawn and Broad Street.

CTLP ensures the fairness and integrity of the tax system by providing free legal representation to low-income Virginia taxpayers in tax disputes, educating taxpayers about their rights and responsibilities, and advocating for issues that impact low-income taxpayers. CTLP is a small but busy nonprofit that provides a collaborative atmosphere and approach to providing our necessary services to Virginia’s low-income populations.
