    FVAP is seeking a grants and a project management professional to join our dynamic team for a fundraising support role to advance our organization’s pursuit of social justice. The ideal candidate will bring unique skills and experiences that support and implement and a diverse portfolio of fund development for the organization, including public and private grants sourcing, grants writing and compliance, individual donor stewardship, and important duties related to communications and database maintenance. You will manage FVAP’s grant reporting and project timelines , closely liaising with the program staff to ensure timely submissions. The candidate will also support successful implementation of mid to large scale fundraising events that may take place in-person and/or on virtual platforms. You will join a three-person development team (including the Executive Director) that works collaboratively together to support the funding and ongoing growth of a $2 million organization.     About FVAP: Family Violence Appellate Project is a statewide California non-profit organization dedicated specifically to support survivors of domestic violence and other forms of intimate partner, family, and gender-based abuse to get a chance at justice by appealing harmful trial court decisions, for free. For the past decade, FVAP’s mission has been to promote and support the safety and well-being of survivors and their children. We appeal and overturn court decisions that put survivors and/or their children at risk of ongoing abuse. By working at the appellate court level, our cases set statewide legal precedent that can help thousands of survivors and children. FVAP serves a diverse clientele throughout California, including individuals and advocates and rural, suburban, and urban populations.

    Skills & Abilities: The ideal candidate is a highly skilled fundraising professional who is capable of leading efforts in grants writing and project management, donor stewardship, external communications, and other development areas to support our current program work and help grow our funding to support the high demand for our legal programs. You are a collaborative, creative, and detail-oriented person who can wear many different hats. You love project planning, have excellent writing skills, and are versed in tracking sophisticated timelines. You enjoy showing donors how much their gifts are appreciated and have creative ideas of how to articulate impact and cultivate relationships. You have a passion for communicating to a variety of audiences and excel at making complex information accessible and compelling. You are filled with ideas and are eager to put them into action.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

    • Grants Writing and Coordination:
      • Support efforts to sustain and grow FVAP’s private and public grants portfolio through research of new grant options in California and federal markets;
      • Systematically present grants opportunities for team discussion and integration into broader strategic planning;
      • Prepare and act as primary author for grants content and proposals, and support co-authorship of grants reports;
      • Manage grants timelines and coordinate with appropriate staff as they pertain to proposals, renewals, and reports;
      • Cultivate and support lasting relationships with grant officers and potential funders; and
      • Work as part of grants team to develop and manage a grants project management process, working closely with leadership and program staff members to ensure grant requirements are successfully met.
    • Donor Stewardship:
      • Work closely with Development Director to support efforts for donor stewardship, including coordination of thank you letters and other expressions of gratitude;
      • Maintain donor data in database (currently Bloomerang); and,
      • Analyze donor data and trends to steward donors.
    • Communications Coordination:
      • Update content on Wordpress website;
      • Author and update content on various social media platforms;
      • Monitor and report on website analytics, and revise communications and outreach plans accordingly; and,
      • Prepare, coordinate and publish e-newsletter.
    • Support other development team activities, including:
      • Support Development Director as needed to produce and manage FVAP’s large annual fundraising event (Battle of the Bands) and other fundraising events as needed (in person and/or virtual);
      • Contribute to overall fundraising strategy to raise goal of over $2 million/year;
      • Assist with publicity efforts and media relations as needed; and,
      • Support Development Director as needed.
    • Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including all health and vaccination policies including Covid-19 vaccination requirements.

    Physical and Environmental Conditions

    Performance of duties and tasks uses standard office equipment, including telephone equipment and computers. Work is performed inside with exposure to heating and air-conditioning. Driving or other travel may be required. Currently, FVAP offers fully remote work options, with this position being eligible for a largely remote status. Further, FVAP is proud to have adopted a 35-hour workweek, which offers further flexibility for all its employees.

    Required Qualifications

    • Two (2) years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or similar business development experience;
    • One (1) year of experience in grants writing or similar creative and/or technical writing experience;
    • Experience managing projects in a professional or other capacity;
    • Experience with databases, preferably Bloomerang or other donor-relations database;
    • Proficiency with standard office computer programs;
    • Commitment to working in an environment that prioritizes anti-racism, equity, and inclusivity and is actively working to implement and strengthen these priorities;
    • Commitment to working on behalf of survivors of domestic violence and their children, and other forms of gender-based violence;
    • Ability to travel to the office to coordinate logistics and supplies;
    • Ability to prioritize multiple projects effectively, with attention to detail; and,
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, fast-paced development team.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Diversity of personal and professional experience;
    • Knowledge of, or experience in, legal aid or other legal or social service environments;
    • An understanding of or experience working in domestic violence and/or gender-based violence fields;
    • Familiarity with nonprofit funding sources and research avenues;
    • Past experience with government grants;
    • Experience managing websites using WordPress; and,
    • Verbal and written communication skills.

    Classification: The position is full-time, non-exempt, and at-will.

    Compensation / Salary Range: Starting salary depends on relevant experience and will be commensurate with comparable nonprofit development positions in Northern California. The salary range is expected to be between $75,000-$85,000/year.
