    Job Description: Finance and Operations Director

    Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco (HRCSF) is a tenants’ rights non-profit serving tenants citywide since 1979, offering free counseling and organizing support for San Francisco tenants in all types of housing, including rent-control, public housing and Section 8.. Through our counseling program, we support more than 5,000 tenants a year, and our organizing program has helped build tenant associations across the city. HRCSF is seeking to hire a Finance and Operations Director to manage financial integrity, oversee the annual budget, ensure operational efficiency, and support compliance with grant and contract requirements

    Position Summary:

    The Finance and Operations Director is a full-time in-person position that plays a crucial leadership role in managing the financial integrity and operational efficiency of HRCSF. This position collaborates closely with the Executive Director and the Program Directors to ensure financial stability, compliance, and the smooth running of daily operations within a budget of over $3.5 million. A strong background in nonprofit financial management and a commitment to housing or social justice issues are essential.

    Essential Functions:

    • Financial Management
      • Develop and oversee the annual budget with the Executive Director and Program Directors, ensuring alignment with goals and funding compliance.
      • Monitor financial performance and ensure quality contract and grant reporting.
      • Supervise financial reporting processes, audits, and compliance.
    • Operations Management
      • Oversee daily operations and administrative functions, ensuring resource efficiency and policy adherence.
      • Coordinate with program directors, operations coordinator, and admin staff to improve systems and processes.
      • Manage office supplies, tech and equipment, and office space utilization.
    • Team Leadership
      • Supervise finance and operations staff, providing support, mentorship, and development opportunities.
      • Collaborate with the Directors Team to foster cross-departmental communication and teamwork
    • Financial and Operational Policy Development - collaboration with the Executive Director to ensure operational consistency and compliance. Assess and improve internal controls and risk management strategies

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:

    • Proven experience in nonprofit financial management, including budgeting, financial analysis, and grant compliance.
    • Familiarity with operational management and organizational development.
    • Understanding of 501(c)3 requirements and compliance issues
    • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in financial management software and office software tools, including Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, and other project management platforms.
    • Supervision and management skills

    This position is a salaried exempt position with a current salary of $85,000. Benefits include medical - including chiropractic and acupuncture - dental, and vision and a generous accrual of paid vacations and sick time. This position is full-time (40 hours per week).
