    Job Description: People and Culture Director

    Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco (HRCSF) is a tenants’ rights non-profit serving tenants citywide since 1979, offering free counseling and organizing support for San Francisco tenants in all types of housing, including rent-control, public housing and Section 8.. Through our counseling program, we support more than 5,000 tenants a year, and our organizing program has helped build tenant associations across the city. HRCSF is seeking to hire a People and Culture Director to foster an inclusive workplace, manage HR policies, enhance staff development, and ensure compliance with employment laws and organizational practices

    Position Summary:

    The People and Culture Director is responsible for fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture that empowers staff and aligns with HRCSF's mission. This position works closely with the Executive Director and Program Directors to enhance employee engagement, training, and professional development while ensuring adherence to HR best practices. A commitment to social justice and experience in HR within nonprofit settings are preferred.

    Essential Functions:

    • Cultural Development: Foster an inclusive workplace that reflects the organization’s values and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Human Resources Management: Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in compliance with labor laws and union contract obligations. Manage employee relations, addressing conflicts and ensuring a positive work environment.
    • Staff Development: Oversee training and development programs to ensure staff have the necessary skills to excel. Coordinate performance evaluations and professional growth plans.
    • Onboarding and Offboarding: Manage recruitment and ensure a smooth onboarding process with ongoing support. Conduct exit interviews and post-transition conversations to gather feedback for improvement.
    • HR Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations related to HR practices. Maintain HR metrics and reports to assess organizational performance and employee satisfaction.
    • Benefits Administration

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:

    • Demonstrated experience in human resources management, employee engagement, and organizational and staff development within a nonprofit context.
    • Familiarity with employment laws, union bargaining and regulations.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and supervision and management skills
    • Ability to build relationships and trust with diverse teams and stakeholders.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
    • Proficiency in using office software tools, including Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, and other project management platforms.
    • Understanding of and proven commitment to values, approaches and policies that reflect principles of DEI, racial justice

    This position is a salaried exempt position with a current salary of $85,000. Benefits include medical - including chiropractic and acupuncture - dental, and vision and a generous accrual of paid vacations and sick time. This position is full-time (40 hours per week). HRCSF fosters a sustainable work environment centered on self and collective care.
