The Center for Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health (CEEJH, INC) is a new nonprofit focused on helping communities impacted by environmental, climate, and energy injustice with a focus on the Mid-Atlantic region, the Southeast, and other parts of the United States. CEEJH, INC provides technical assistance and capacity-building support to help impacted communities address environmental racism, environmental classism, oppression and related health inequities by following the 17 Principles of Environmental Justice and through INpowerment Science and Liberation Science. CEEJH, INC continues the vision of Dr. Sacoby Wilson, one of the nation’s leading environmental justice researchers, scholars, and advocates to advance environmental, climate, and energy justice through service and the authentic engagement of local grassroots environmental justice organizations in community centered, justice-focused applied action-oriented solutions science. CEEJH, Inc is about dismantling racist systems, developing cross-sectoral partnerships, and demanding change to ensure that frontline and fenceline communities receive the recognitional, procedural, distributional, and restorative justice that they deserve.

Position Overview
CEEJH, INC is looking for candidates who are well-organized, self-directed, and committed to excellence. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director has both internal and external facing responsibilities. The Associate Director partners closely with the Executive Director to chart strategic responses to organizational challenges and plays a critical role as advisor and strategic thought-partner for the Executive Director. The Associate Director also works to create high engagement from staff, board members and partners to resolve day-to-day issues before they reach the Executive Director. The Associate Director plays a critical role in shaping and implementing the organization’s strategies and growth, including oversight of programs, operations, grants, and financial management. The Associate Director will also be involved in fundraising and development efforts as well as communications with donors, the public and the media.
The right candidate will be a mission-focused and strategic leader with experience developing a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement among a group of diverse, talented individuals. They must be independent, highly organized, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail, while able to effectively manage multiple projects, budgets and staff. Applicants should be an environmental justice leader as well as understand non-profit financial best practices, human resource best practices, non-profit regulatory compliance and a solid understanding of office and information technology.

In this role, the employee may be required to supervise other employees.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily schedule is flexible within the proximity of this time frame, and will be decided in consultation with the supervisor. This job may require working in the evenings and weekends including work related to trainings, workshops, technical assistance activities, and the annual CEEJH EJ symposium.
TRAVEL
Occasional domestic travel may be required for trainings, workshops, technical assistance activities, conferences, and symposia.
LOCATION
This role will commence with remote work and will move to a hybrid role with 1 to 2 days in office a week when CEEJH, INC secures an in-person office in the Washington, D.C. area in the near future.
