Job Summary:
As our Director of Major Gifts, you will lead efforts to strengthen Henry Street Settlement’s philanthropic culture and connect donors to our mission. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills for building meaningful relationships with donors, staff, and stakeholders. You’ll manage a growing portfolio of major donors, focusing on gifts over $2,500, mid-level donors, and planned giving prospects. You’ll oversee key programs like the Lillian Wald Legacy Circle and Arts for Living Circle, while collaborating with our development, marketing, executive, and program teams.. Additionally, you’ll manage the Development Database Manager to ensure accurate records and leverage research to drive our individual giving strategy.

You have:
- Bachelor degree preferred
- At least five years of experience in a development office with a proven track record of planning, managing, and implementing a successful major gifts program.
- Strong management expertise with a focus on individual and team growth opportunities and effective communication to help team members grow.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database
- Experience with wealth research prospecting
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
You will lead our major gifts portfolio by:
- Maintaining a portfolio of approximately 150 mid and major donors and prospects by proactively creating and implementing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, retention, and stewardship of donors with the capacity to make 5- and 6-figure annual gifts and 6- and 7-figure leadership gifts.
- Stewarding donors through multiple forms of engagement at Henry Street and Abrons Arts Center.
- Drafting compelling communications, donor reports and proposals that are aligned with donor’s philanthropic interests.
- Supporting annual and long-term individual fundraising strategy including digital fundraising, direct mail campaigns, and monthly giving program to support deeper engagement of major donors and high potential prospects.
- Overseeing prospect research, identification, growth of high-capacity fundraising pipelines for Henry Street Settlement and Abrons Arts Center.
- Developing new planning giving strategies and solicitations to increase the pipeline of planned gifts and deeper cultivation of committed planned donors.
- Overseeing the development and delivery of donor analysis reports; utilizing data and metrics to benchmark efforts, inform strategic and tactical decision-making, and identify broad-based solicitation opportunities
