    SUMMARY

    The position of Advocate & Volunteer Coordinator may assist in directing the agency but does not carry the full powers, duties, and responsibilities of the Executive Director or Assistant Director. The Advocate & Volunteer Coordinator may act in the absence of the Executive Director or Assistant Director. If either the Executive Director or Assistant Director is incapacitated and/or unable to be reached, the Advocate & Volunteer Coordinator, with Board of Trustees approval, may be given full authority to act in the Executive Director role.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provides advocacy services for Winter Sanctuary guests and oversees policy and programs related to the health and safety of guests, staff, and volunteers.
    • Documents in HMIS.
    • Covers on call as needed in shelter season.
    • Recruits, trains, and schedules volunteers.
    • Coordinates three group volunteer opportunities per year.
    • Attends Board meetings; staff meetings; and other educational/training sessions as needed or required.
    • Ensures shelter locations are stocked with food, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, intake clothing, etc.
    • Answers the phone; checks messages; returns calls.
    • Assists with clerical activities such as document organization and filing; photocopying; scanning; etc…
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

    • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with people with diverse educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Results oriented.
    • Ability to respond to crisis in a calm and collected manner.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of confidentiality as it relates to guests, staff, and volunteers.
    • A willingness to step in and help when needed.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions.
    • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
    • Must provide own transportation.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Completes goal setting and annual performance review.

    DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL LEVEL OR EQUIVALENCY

    • Two year degree or higher in Social Services or other related field is preferred.
    • Three to five years experience in a non-profit organization preferred.
    • Volunteer management experience a plus.
    • Demonstrated involvement in local community a plus.
    • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills/ability to work with a diverse population.
