    Position Overview

    In this role, the Education & Equity Coordinator must blend educational expertise, industry knowledge, and a strong commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in the construction trades. This person plays a pivotal role in preparing women for long-term careers and transforming the culture of the construction industry through Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB)-focused initiatives.

    The Education & Equity Coordinator will focus heavily on helping NEW graduates be successful in entering and advancing in their professional construction careers. The responsibilities span curriculum development, classroom instruction, student support, employer collaboration, and DEIB training facilitation. This position will work across all functions of the employment department and in collaboration with other program staff to conduct in-class instruction of pre-apprentices, develop pre-apprenticeship curriculum, facilitate skill advancement curriculum and curated education opportunities for alumna, provide supportive services to students and graduates, and work with registered apprenticeships, employer contractors, and other industry partners to provide diversity, equity, and inclusion opportunities.

    This person will create input and retrieve training data; promote and fill scheduled DEIA training classes; verify and keep track of certificates for distribution; and maintain and update graduate profiles within an Internal Database System.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with industry experts, instructors, and employers to identifying gaps in the current curriculum and make improvements or develop new content focused on apprenticeship readiness, life skills, and career planning and retention.
    • Carry out scheduling and coordination of training sessions, guest speakers, and site visits to ensure well-rounded exposure to the construction industry.
    • Work with pre-apprenticeship graduates who need additional employment training or support services prior to being placed into employment under the department’s new “
    • Manage educational resources and tools, ensuring they are accessible to clients.
    • Collaborate with other program staff to monitor student progress, offering individualized support when necessary, or additional skills training.
    • Facilitate and deliver industry-specific DEIB training to pre-apprentices, alumna, employers, unions, apprenticeship staff, apprentices, and other industry partners to foster inclusive workplaces that support women and other underrepresented groups in construction.
    • Track, evaluate, and assess the effectiveness of classroom curriculum and DEIB initiatives through feedback and data collection to continuously improve the pre-apprenticeship training and measure the impact of training on the culture of construction
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that workplace policies and practices reflect DEIB principles, advocating for systemic change when necessary.
    • Collect and analyze data to determine the effectiveness of classroom instruction to pre-apprentices and technical assistance to industry partners such as workshop attendance rates, on-site surveying of construction workers, course evaluation surveys, success stories, etc.
    • Prepare reports for stakeholders, such as funding bodies, employers, and community partners, to demonstrate program effectiveness and secure ongoing support.
    • Work closely with industry partners, union representatives, and apprenticeship programs to ensure alignment between pre-apprenticeship training and industry needs.
    • Represent NEW with key stakeholders, including government agencies, funding organizations, and DEIB advocates, to support the organization’s growth and sustainability.
    • Serve as a voice for women in the construction industry in spaces they are rarely included or granted the opportunity to provide input
    • Create, distribute, and store training credentials; and maintain and update data tracking systems including dashboards, excel worksheets, CRMs, etc.

    Qualifications and Experience

    A background in education and diversity work is highly sought after. The candidate will also need to possess the ability to take initiative, work independently, prioritize responsibilities and meet tight deadlines.

    Required:

    • General Experience in program coordination and administration
    • Familiarity with the construction industry and culture
    • Training in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, Belonging
    • Previous experience working within underrepresented/marginalized communities
    • Classroom management and facilitation in a career readiness programs setting
    • Willing to achieve additional and maintain DEIA Certifications

    Preferred:

    • Experienced and Proficiency in utilizing CRM to track data within Salesforce

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: Range $48,000 - $60,000 per year
