    Job Summary/Definition:

    NSC’s Refugee Health Promotion (RHP) programming serves refugees, asylees and other humanitarian immigrants within their first five years of arrival or eligibility. The program provides direct services to NSC clients and pilots health education sessions and materials with clients. The program also provides statewide technical assistance on Refugee Health Promotion to resettlement agencies and other providers across the state of Pennsylvania. The Health Promotion Specialist will support all aspects of RHP programming, including pilot sessions with clients, development of written and recorded materials, hosting live trainings for providers, disseminating materials, and data collection and reporting. The main job responsibilities of this position include coordinating with clients and with other members of NSC’s Health Team to facilitate health education sessions, developing health education materials, sending communications to the statewide network and administrative work to support the program.

    The Health Promotion Specialist has internal contacts with the entire administrative staff and external contact with clients, visitors, representatives of other social services agencies, and the community. This position has access to sensitive NSC and client information and is expected to handle such information with integrity and professionalism. This position is expected to represent NSC in a professional manner.

    Job Duties:

    Essential Duties:

    1. Schedule client health education sessions and facilitate sessions or coordinate with presenters. Coordinate client attendance with clients directly and with NSC’s Health Team.
    2. Conduct basic health education sessions with clients, in coordination with Reception and Placement and Health teams.
    3. Independently carry out all aspects of development of health education materials (both client-facing and provider-facing). This varies for different materials, but can include coordination with content creators, research, writing, editing, graphic design and working with vendors on translation.
    4. Conduct needs assessments through conversations with resettlement agency colleagues, health providers and clients to identify highest need topic areas and populations for health education.
    5. Support administrative needs of the Refugee Health Promotion programming, including communication with the statewide provider network, providing content and/or support for live provider trainings or other events, and supporting content creation.
    6. Support Associate Director with collecting program data and completing grant reporting.
    7. Maintain accurate, timely, and orderly case and database records per NSC and the funder’s guidelines.
    8. Communicate with NSC’s Health team and other staff to coordinate services to clients.
    9. Support the health Team with appointment accompaniment or other healthcare coordination services to clients as needed.
    10. Attend weekly Health Team meetings.
    11. Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations and the mission of NSC.

    Non-Essential Duties:

    1. Attend appropriate workshops, webinars, and other relevant professional development opportunities to maintain proper licensure and knowledge of programmatic guidelines and health promotion skills.
    2. Actively participate in monthly department meetings and other department and agency meetings.

    Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

    • Foundational health and health literacy knowledge.
    • Knowledge of community resources and benefits that impact and/or benefit the targeted client needs, as well as relevant legal and political issues.
    • Proficiency using a computer, Microsoft Office, and a willingness to learn other software as needed.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate with diverse groups of co-workers, clients, external business partners, and the community.
    • Knowledge of basic client management procedures for determining eligibility, assessing needs, identifying resources, making referrals, following up, documenting client interactions and proactively supporting a client's pursuit of goals.
    • Possess strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse group of co-workers, external business partners, and the community.
    • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to effectively interview and engage a client in appropriate programming.
    • Ability to work in a team structure – demonstrating ability to collaborate and contribute to the team’s work.

    Education/Experience Requirements:

    Minimum Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience working in public health and/or within the refugee and immigrant community.

    Minimum Education: BA/BS degree in a related field of study strongly preferred, but not required. High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Certification/Licenses: Valid driver’s license is preferred but not required.

    2. This position will be hybrid between NSC’s Center City office and remote work.
