Summary
Art in Tanzania introduces and implements traditional African construction materials in modern-day construction and interior designs.
Details
Art in Tanzania has been operating since 1996. Our community placements attract about 250 participants annually. Our vision is to give students hands-on experience working in developing African communities. In addition to your studies, you will have an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience of African culture and life, as well as fantastic nature and wildlife.
Traditional African construction materials, such as mud, hay, leaves, stones, and bamboo, are still commonly used by low-income families.
These materials are eco-friendly and low-cost. We use these raw African materials and construction techniques in modern-day solutions, such as mud-plastered walls and fences, makuti-covered roofs, sound insulation solutions, and bamboo lampshades. We also look for new, innovative ways to implement African culture in households.
The volunteering outcome is to learn to use your studies and experience to work in developing country conditions.
Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Your program lasts two weeks to 12 months, and an internship is commonly 2-3 months. The placement starting dates are flexible.
Academic-level team leaders supervise your placement daily. We monitor your work using a weekly plan and report system to ensure you complete your tasks.
We can take students in all year round as all programs are ongoing. Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities.
The typical morning tasks include practical fieldwork in the schools and communities, and afternoons are for planning, reporting, and social media visibility functions.
The Benefits and Perks are as follows:
Accommodation with breakfast and dinner is EUR 175 per week, a personal expense. However, after the first 13 weeks, the cost drops to EUR 125 weekly.
Airport transfers from and to EUR 120 are a personal expense.
A charity student or volunteer visa is USD 50 and is a personal expense. A less-than-one-year multiple-entry charity visa is USD 250.
We pay you a USD 50 per month fee. It is small but 2x Tanzania's national minimum wage. The minimum participation time for assistance is four weeks.
Flights are a personal expense.
