    MoCoPAAN Seeks Program Fellow

    Building an Asian Americans Anti-Racist Equity Agenda

    6-Month Term (January 6-July 31)

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: The fellow will provide administrative support and

    newsletter management - with other duties related to meeting/event logistics,

    writing and research, and social media - for the Montgomery County Progressive

    Asian American Network (MoCoPAAN), www.mocopaan.org, to carry out a

    project called “Building an Asian Americans Anti-Racist Equity Agenda.” The

    project involves convening MoCoPAAN member meetings, hosting public

    webinars, administering surveys, creating a video, collecting research for

    community education briefs and promoting MoCoPAAN content using social

    media over a 6-month period from January 6 to July 31. Hybrid remote/in person.

    Average 7 hours/week, up to $5,000 total, based on hourly work, 6-month term.

    Montgomery County resident preferred.

    ABOUT MoCoPAAN: MoCoPAAN is an all volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3)

    organization that has networked Asian American leaders in Montgomery County,

    Maryland. MoCoPAAN’s goal is to connect the leaders to the public to enhance

    general knowledge of Asian Americans, to raise the presence of Asian Americans

    who share progressive values in community conversations and to strengthen

    allyship. Currently MoCoPAAN is undergoing a retooling based on strategic board

    conversations. Along those lines, the project will be a new opportunity to engage

    MoCoPAAN’s members and to inform the public (including elected officials and

    staff) of Asian Americans and the community. The presentation will include

    demographics, history, contributions and challenges, with an eye on the role of

    Asian Americans in the equity conversation.

    Principal responsibilities: Under the direction of 2 board members, the fellow

    will carry out the following:

    Cultivate member relations and provide logistical support for meetings

    ● Cultivate member interest to attend 1 meeting and 2 webinars

    ● Follow up with member RSVPs

    ● Create member profiles

    ● Assist board members with planning member meetings, i.e., poll and

    schedule meetings (app 3)

    ● Create graphically designed meeting flyers

    ● Provide logistical meeting support, i.e. arrange refreshments/supplies, staff

    sign-in table, take photos

    ● Take meeting notes, and summarize key discussion points, and actions

    ● Schedule additional individual/small group meetings, as necessary

    ● Manage online documents in file system

    Assist with promotional video

    ● Videotape meetings

    ● Identify potential video editor

    Assist with briefs

    ● Gather data or research for community briefs on Asian Americans

    ● Identify potential graphics designer

    Post public updates on project

    ● Create/post project updates appropriate via email, website, Facebook,

    Instagram, Twitter, Linked In, Blue Sky

    ● Promote posts to attract new followers

    ● Create monthly newsletter with project updates

    ● Refer potential new members from social media accounts to board members

    ● Gather data or research for community briefs on Asian Americans

    ● Identify potential graphics designer

    Post public updates on project

    ● Create/post project updates appropriate via email, website, Facebook,

    Instagram, Twitter, Linked In, Blue Sky

    ● Promote posts to attract new followers

    ● Create monthly newsletter with project updates

    ● Refer potential new members from social media accounts to board members

    Community engagement and provide zoom management support for webinars

    ● Identify target attendees and create contact list for webinars (2)

    ● Create stakeholder profiles

    ● Create graphically designed event flyers

    ● Assist board members with webinar logistics, i.e., poll board members on

    dates, run of show, set up zoom registration site, track RSVPs, send

    reminders, serve as zoom manager during webinars

    ● May assist board member with webinar content, e.g, slideshow presentation

    ● Assist board member with collecting pre- and post-survey results

    ● Take meeting notes, and summarize key discussion points, and actions

    ● Coordinate inter-party communications among four board members, elected

    officials and staff, nonprofit leaders or other interested stakeholders

    ● Manage online documents in file system

    DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE: The ideal candidate is a motivated,

    independent self-starter and quick learner who can work fluidly in an unstructured

    environment with a start up organization. The candidate has a demonstrable

    interest in the Asian American community and potentially is interested in joining

    MoCoPAAN as a member.

    This is a good opportunity for a college graduate, graduate student, early career

    professional or former campaign staffer who wants to better understand the Asian

    American community in Montgomery County. Montgomery County resident

    preferred.

    The candidate is required to be available for scheduled weekly zoom/in person

    meetings during work hours with board member(s), track and submit weekly

    deliverables, and respond to communications in a consistent and timely manner.
