Position Summary

The Idealist Action Incubator is a free virtual community action program offering one-on-one guidance and community support to help U.S. and internationally-based participants move forward with a first (or next) step in their idea for community action. Participants receive support through individualized sessions and weekly community chats where they engage with each other in a collaborative learning space.

We are currently seeking dedicated Volunteer Coaches with expertise in global startup, nonprofit environments and/or leadership development to join our team. Volunteer Coaches will meet remotely with the global Idealist Action Incubator participants to guide them through planning and executing their first step with their idea for community action and strategize an action plan for moving forward. Program orientation will be included.

Responsibilities

1. Meet with Incubator participants for one-on-one sessions and work with them to create an action plan for taking their first step with their idea. During the sessions, Volunteer Coaches will assist participants in thinking about what can help them proceed forward with their idea, such as connections, resources, and an achievable timeline for accomplishing their first step.
2. After the initial one-on-one session, Volunteer Coaches will regularly check in with participants for progress updates.
3. Document session notes.
4. Meet for bi-weekly team meetings to review participant progress and best practices for coaching.

Qualifications

1. Strong commitment to helping individuals make a positive difference in their community.
2. Experience working in a leadership or advising role.
3. Coaching or mentoring in the context of global startups, leadership, or nonprofit sectors.
4. Availability to volunteer either morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours.
5. Demonstration of solid communication skills.
6. Computer skills and experience using Google Docs.
7. Access to a computer will be required for virtual meetings and sessions. Please note that Idealist will not cover computer and software access, internet access, or phone charges.
8. Comfortable working independently and in a team environment.

Time Commitment

Minimum of two hours weekly for three months. We are looking to fill morning (9:00 am to 12:00 pm), afternoon (2:00 pm to 5:00 pm), evening (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm), and weekend hours (9:00 am to 1:00 pm).
