    ABOUT ChromaLearn:

    Founded in 2023, ChromaLearn is dedicated to empowering underprivileged youth through quality education, fostering growth through guidance and mentorship, and providing exposure to invaluable knowledge and opportunities—all while ensuring everything remains free and accessible. In our first year, we have laid a strong foundation by assembling a team of passionate professionals alongside high school and college students, creating a unique dynamic for making a meaningful impact. We initiated a free online 1-on-1 tutoring with successful high school student tutors and aim to expand our services by launching additional helpful programs to change the lives of our future generations.

    Position Summary:

    The Director of Compliance will lead Chromalearn’s efforts to ensure full legal compliance, safeguard student data and safety, and maintain ethical and professional standards across all operations. This role encompasses oversight of contractors, external contributors, and volunteer staff to ensure that all individuals engaged in Chromalearn’s mission adhere to applicable laws and best practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    A. Legal Compliance and Policy Development

    • Ensure ChromaLearn complies with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including FERPA, COPPA, ADA, and IDEA.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures governing compliance for external contributors, contractors, and volunteers.
    • Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes impacting tutoring and educational services and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.

    B. Child Safety and Protection

    • Design and oversee child safety protocols applicable to all staff, contractors, and volunteers, ensuring physical and online safety for students.
    • Implement and manage background checks for all individuals engaged with ChromaLearn, including external contributors, contractors, and volunteers.
    • Conduct regular training programs on child protection policies, mandatory reporting, and appropriate interactions with minors.

    C. Data Privacy and Security

    • Develop and oversee compliance with data privacy protocols, ensuring alignment with COPPA, FERPA, and relevant state laws.
    • Collaborate with IT and operational teams to implement secure systems for handling sensitive student, parent, and volunteer information.
    • Manage parental consent processes for data collection and program participation.

    D. Risk Management

    • Assess risks across ChromaLearn’s operations, including those posed by external contributors, contractors, and volunteers, and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure appropriate liability insurance coverage is in place for all operational activities.
    • Develop and enforce workplace and volunteer safety policies, ensuring alignment with legal and ethical standards.

    E. Partnerships and Contracts

    • Negotiate and manage contracts with schools, parents, and third-party vendors to ensure legal compliance and clear terms.
    • Oversee volunteer agreements, ensuring clarity on roles, expectations, and compliance requirements.

    F. Training and Advocacy

    • Create and deliver compliance and child safety training for external contributors, contractors, and volunteers.
    • Foster a culture of accountability and advocacy for student safety and ethical practices within all levels of the organization.

    G. Monitoring and Reporting

    • Establish monitoring systems to evaluate compliance and identify areas for improvement.
    • Conduct audits of contractor, and volunteer activities to ensure adherence to ChromaLearn’s policies.
    • Prepare and present reports on compliance metrics, risks, and policy updates to senior leadership.

    Qualifications & Experience Necessary for the Role:

    • Degree in law, business administration, education, or a related field (Master’s or JD ideal).
    • Experience in compliance, legal, or risk management roles, preferably in education or child services.
    • Experience managing volunteers or overseeing volunteer programs is a significant advantage.
    • Able to commit a minimum of 5-8 hours a week for 6 months+ & based in the United States
    • Available to respond to emails/messaging/inquiries within 24 hours
    • Knowledge of our tools/software helpful or willingness to learn (i.e. PMS Systems, Slack, Canva Pro, Google Workspace, etc.)

    Skills and Competencies

    • Strong understanding of laws and regulations related to child protection, education, data privacy, and labor.
    • Proven ability to manage compliance and safety for diverse groups, including contractors, and volunteers.
    • Excellent leadership, training, and communication skills.
    • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and risk management expertise.

    Certifications

    Relevant certifications in compliance or risk management (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM)) ***are a plus**/not required.
