    Position Title: Hospice Volunteer

    Location: Corus Health and Hospice

    Position Summary: Hospice volunteers provide compassionate support and companionship to patients and their families facing terminal illnesses. They offer emotional support, practical assistance, and companionship to enhance the quality of life for patients in their final stages. Volunteers work under the guidance of the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator and adhere to the organization's policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Companionship: Spend quality time with patients, engaging in conversation, reading, playing games, or simply providing a comforting presence.

    Emotional Support: Offer a listening ear and provide emotional support to patients and their families as they navigate the challenges of terminal illness and end-of-life care.

    Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Help patients with basic tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, running errands, or accompanying them to appointments.

    Respite Care: Provide temporary relief to primary caregivers by staying with the patient to allow family members to take a break or attend to their own needs.

    Legacy Projects: Assist patients in creating memory books, recording life stories, or engaging in activities that help them leave a legacy for their loved ones.

    Qualifications:

    Compassionate and empathetic demeanor.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect patients' privacy.

    Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to fulfilling volunteer duties as scheduled.

    Completion of hospice volunteer training program (provided by the hospice organization).

    Time Commitment: Flexible scheduling; volunteers are typically asked to commit to a minimum of 1-4 hours per week, with the option to increase involvement based on availability.

    Training: Completion of hospice volunteer training program, which covers topics such as the philosophy of hospice care, communication skills, grief and loss, and practical caregiving techniques.

    *Driver's License, a background check, Tuberculosis Testing (TB), and Opportunity specific training are required for this role, as it is in direct contact with patients and families, and they are provided by Corus Health. *
