Thank you for your interest in our Next Gen program at Journey Forward Mentoring (formerly Leadership Forward)! Our focus is to provide college, career, and community readiness support to high school students in Dallas through one-on-one mentorships, so that our students can make informed decisions and be prepared for life after high school. It is important to us to recruit the best mentors possible who understand the significance of their role and the dedication it takes to be an effective mentor. We expect for our mentors to meet with their students, on average, twice a month, as well as to make every best effort to attend our community events and workshops with their mentees and their families so that they can further strengthen their relationships. This time investment pays off in dividends for our students and provides a truly rewarding experience for our mentors. We currently serve four schools located in North Oak Cliff and downtown Dallas.
We will provide you with training and online resources, so that you have the information and materials you need for a successful mentoring relationship. Once you complete your application, you will receive information on the following next steps:
1. Scheduling an interview;
2. Completing Dallas ISD's background check
3. Completing Next Gen's background checks
4. Completing Next Gen's Code of Conduct
5. Attending a mentor training session; and
6. Getting matched and meeting your student at our kickoff event.
We are fortunate to receive many great mentor applications! Our ability to match mentors is largely determined on student participation, and sometimes this means we cannot match every mentor right away. We focus on best match for each of our students, which may mean some mentors will need to wait longer than others to be matched.
