Wevise is a US-based nonprofit founded in 2022. Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities. We’re a team of committed volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about leveling the playing field in tech (and beyond).

Our first program, which launched in June 2023, is a mentorship platform for those looking for personal or professional guidance in the technology industry, with a focus on those from disadvantaged communities or with additional barriers. 

We believe in mentoring—so much so that we have brought a paired programming methodology to each of our roles. For every position, there is an expert mentor and an experienced mentee who will collaborate with and learn from the mentor along the way.

We currently have an experienced (mentor) Operations Manager and are looking for a less experienced person to be mentored in the Operations Manager mentee role.

The Operations Manager, in partnership with the COO, will be responsible for ensuring that our startup, an online mentoring service in the tech industry, meets its goals successfully. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Operations Manager will play a crucial role in the strategic planning and operational excellence of our organization. This is a non-paid position, but the experience and opportunity to work with a startup in the tech industry will be invaluable to your career!

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Goal Tracking:

• Monitor progress against strategic goals and provide reports to senior management and the Board.
• Analyze operational processes and suggest improvements for efficiency and effectiveness.

Process and Procedure Management:

• Oversee the creation and revision of organization policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Project Management:

• Oversee and manage special projects, ensuring they align with organizational goals.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams for project execution and success.

Board Support:

• Prepare reports and presentations for Board meetings.
• Assist in coordinating Board communications and activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Foster a positive work culture that promotes mentorship and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with technology teams to integrate the latest tech solutions in organizational processes.
• Manage budget and resources for the operations department.
• Engage in community outreach and represent the organization as needed for fundraising events and partnerships activities.

Flexibility in Role:

• Undertake additional projects or assignments as needed by the CEO and COO, adapting to the evolving needs of the organization.

Requirements:

• 5-10 hours per week commitment (minimum)
• 1-4 years in Operations and/or HR/People Ops
• Strong strategic planning and project management skills
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, diverse environment
• Passion for technology, mentorship, and social impact
• Experience in HR and nonprofit organization setup is a plus
• Familiarity with the tech industry and mentoring is a plus
