Come make a difference with us!
Doorways is an Arlington-based non-profit agency helping individuals and families create pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault leading to safe, stable and empowered lives. We envision a community where all people live free of violence and have safe and stable housing regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, abilities, language, or national origin. We see a future without homelessness or domestic and sexual violence.
We are seeking individuals to act as Shelter Coverage/Hotline Volunteers for at least 8 hours per month (two 4-hour shifts) in our Domestic Violence Safe House. Shelter Coverage Volunteers respond to hotline calls, ensure the smooth operation of the shelter and assist in meeting the needs of domestic violence survivors and their children residing at the shelter. Typical shifts are Saturdays and Sundays 10am-2pm & 2pm-6pm, with weekday daytime (2-6pm) and evening shifts (6-10pm) as needed.
Please note that volunteers must complete 40 hours of training in person and submit background checks in order to work directly with clients. A one year commitment is required. Training classes are conducted three times per year: Fall (Sep-Nov), Winter (Jan-March), and Spring (April-June). Entrance into a cohort is on a first come, first serve basis.
