    Descrição

    Ten Thousand Villages Alexandria is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Located on Historic King Street in Old Town Alexandria, our store was opened in 1994 by a group of dedicated folks with a passion for the mission of Ten Thousand Villages. We are more than just a store, we are a way for customers to shop with intention, shop their values and connect with our global villages. From communities throughout the world, every inspired design is crafted with love using local materials (usually natural or recycled) and time-honored skills by makers we have known and worked with for years…even decades. In our shop, you will discover organic clothing + jewelry, home décor + hand knotted rugs and specialty foods + beverages from over 45 countries. We do business differently, putting people and the planet first. You can trust your handmade purchase and donation directly impacts the life and community its maker, breaking the cycle of generational poverty and igniting social change.

    Our Board Members must:

    • Support the Ten Thousand Villages’ mission;
    • Attend one monthly board meeting, participate in at least one standing or ad hoc board committee monthly, and participate in an annual day-long planning session; and
    • Be local to the greater Washington, DC area.

    Prior experience and expertise that we would find valuable includes accounting and financial planning; HR and personnel management; participation in other nonprofit boards; event planning and fund-raising; media and community outreach; legal; retail; volunteering in a Ten Thousand Villages store; and employment or volunteer experience at another nonprofit.

    Board members are term-limited to two three-year terms - for a total of six years - after which they must take at least a one-year break. If you are interested, please send a resume and statement of interest to: alexandria@tenthousandvillages.com
