Peace Economy Project is seeking a passionate and driven individual for the position of Economic Justice Fellow. The fellow will focus on researching economic inequality, the relationship between military spending and social programs, and advocating for policy reforms that promote economic justice. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful change in how national resources are allocated and to advance solutions that address the root causes of poverty and inequality.

The Economic Justice Fellowship is ideal for individuals interested in economic policy, social justice, and public advocacy.

    Responsibilities

    Research and Analysis:

    • Conduct research on the economic impacts of military spending, both domestically and globally, and how it contributes to economic inequality.

    • Analyze federal, state, and local budgets to identify opportunities for redirecting military funds toward social programs such as education, healthcare, housing, and renewable energy.

    • Prepare reports, policy briefs, and articles on the intersection of economic justice and militarism, with a focus on solutions for creating a more just and equitable economy.

    Policy Advocacy:

    • Assist in developing and promoting policy proposals that advocate for a shift in national priorities away from defense spending toward social services.

    • Work with lawmakers, public officials, and community organizations to promote budget reforms and economic policies that prioritize public welfare.

    • Support the Move the Money campaign by drafting legislative language, engaging in outreach, and assisting with lobbying efforts.

    Community Engagement and Education:

    • Participate in community outreach efforts to educate the public about economic justice, the cost of militarism, and how reallocation of funds can improve communities.

    • Help organize and participate in webinars, workshops, and community events focused on building awareness around economic justice and budget priorities.

    • Contribute to social media campaigns, blog posts, and other communications efforts to raise awareness about economic justice issues.

    Collaboration and Networking:

    • Build relationships with economic justice organizations, academic institutions, and policymakers working on related issues.

    • Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and networking events to represent Peace Economy Project and share insights from the fellowship’s research and advocacy work.

    Qualifications

    • A passion for economic justice, social equity, and public policy reform.

    • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in economics, political science, public policy, or a related field.

    • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to distill complex economic data into clear, actionable insights.

    • Experience in advocacy, policy research, or legislative work is a plus.

    • Excellent communication and writing skills, particularly in writing reports, policy briefs, or educational materials.

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Experience with data analysis and budget tracking.

    • Knowledge of grassroots movements and community organizing in economic justice and budget advocacy.

    • Familiarity with federal and state-level legislative processes.
