Gardener

Monkton Wyld Court is seeking a gardener to help maintain and run the beautiful organic walled garden. This position comes with accommodation, all meals, and a discretionary stipend.

Full time hours are 9-5pm 5 days a week, with 2 days off.

Part time positions also considered.

Duties include:

Produce substantial amounts of good organic vegetables and fruit for home consumption all year round.

Organise the day-to-day running of the vegetable garden.

Manage and motivate volunteers and be able to prioritise, delegate, explain and oversee

jobs as necessary.

Lead the overall development of the garden through observation and mapping, keeping sowing,

planting and harvesting records and contributing to the longer-term planning process.

Manage the garden budget.

Assess the readiness of vegetables and fruit for harvesting, liaising with the kitchen team regarding what is available and what is needed.

Develop the processing and storage of surplus produce for our use and for sale, working with the kitchen team and researching alternative preserving methods.

Ensure that the garden shed, glasshouse and poly tunnels are kept tidy and well-maintained and liaise with the maintenance person regarding repair or replacement.

Organise composting systems of kitchen waste.
