New York State Nurses Association

The New York State Nurses Association is a dynamic, member-driven union and professional association.

The Association is seeking to pass safe staffing legislation, increase NYSNA's visibility as a political and social force across the state, and win strong collective bargaining agreements that ensure quality care for our patients, their families and communities.

The NYSNA membership includes 37,000 registered nurses, as well as other health professionals. More than 36,000 members are covered by collective bargaining agreements, in both the public and private sector.

NYSNA has undergone dramatic, positive changes in the past year that reflect the members' desire for a more open, transparent and democratic organization. More than 2,500 nurses attended a mass membership meeting to change the bylaws unifying the organization and giving members a stronger voice in NYSNA's direction. Shortly following this event, hundreds of nurses attended a safe staffing summit to kick off a new statewide campaign.

NYSNA has two offices, one located in Manhattan and the other just outside of Albany. The highest density of membership is located in downstate New York area.
