Creative Commons is devoted to expanding the range of creative work available for others to build upon and share. A single goal unites Creative Commons' current and future projects: to build a layer of reasonable, flexible copyright in the face of increasingly restrictive default rules. This overarching mission has two dimensions, one practical and one symbolic. On the practical side, we want to build the sum of creative material, whether owned or public domain, free for re-use by the public. On the symbolic side, we view every project as an opportunity to lay out an alternative vision of copyright, and to offer the public a simple way to voice their support for that vision.
