Environmental Coalition in Standards

ECOS, Environmental Coalition on Standards, is an international NGO with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally friendly technical standards, policies, and laws. Headquartered in Brussels, and with a regional office in Nairobi, we are active across the world.

The triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution knows no borders. We need global efforts to fight it and bring us back within planetary boundaries, which is why ECOS has a unique, broad focus. Bringing our technical expertise to international, regional, and national policymaking, legislation, and standardisation, we make sure that all the puzzle pieces fit together, advocating for an ambitious environmental agenda and much-needed change.

For over two decades, we have shaped environmentally ambitious standards, policies, and laws – be it the clean transition to a circular economy, building a renewable and efficient energy system, or fighting greenwashing. But our influence does not stop there: we also push for a more inclusive, open, and transparent standardisation system at all levels, and the appropriate use of standards in support of environmental legislation and policy.

Our strength lies in our technical expertise but also in our network. As part of the solution, we are an active member of several impactful alliances and campaigns, where we cooperate with other NGOs, progressive companies, and researchers advocating for a greener future for all.
